I had posted these in the OT forum also, but figured some of you would like to see.

I had cut these last year and finally found some one that would mill them up for me.

The maple logs.

Maple and walnut.

I picked them up yesterday and took them to a different guy who's going to kiln them.

These are all about 2 1/2" thick and they are going to air dry for 6mo before they go to the kiln, he thought they might crack if they dried too fast.

The whole load, 52 boards in total.

Here's more of the slabs. Some of the maple pieces are around 15 -17" wide:rock:

I didn't take pictures of his mill, I don't like people snooping on my stuff, and I don't feel comfortable doing that to people.
But it's a nice homemade 4 post head on a bus frame and totally mobile.

I find if I ask before taking photos that people will generally oblige. If they worry about someone stealing their ideas you can always take the photos from well back so the details are not clear.

I agree with that Bob, but it is in his barn with a bunch of other things....

He said it took 6 hours to mill it all. Out of curiosity, how long do you think that would take on a CS mill?

Well I know if I were doing it on my own, it would take more than 6 hours. 52 boards out of 4 logs in 6 hours? That is way more productive than I am on my cs mill. I know I am just a hobbiest and not as speedy as some guys around here, but I would say that's probably close to two full days for me.

Thanks Dan.

I thought real hard about getting CS mill, but it just seemed like too time consuming for me to do. And I think I'll take that $ and either put it into my own stationary mill (someday) or use that $ to just have this guy do it.

If you have a method (which you obviously do) to move 1 ton logs around, a BSM beats a CSM hand downs except for breathing the 2 stroke fumes and making wide (over 36") lumber.
But the ADDITIONAL cost for a CSM above having a good chainsaw to get the trees to lay down is only about $300.
