Hey Everyone,

As a a relatively new climber (just over a year of experience) I am looking at getting a new hand saw. Right now I am using a 13" Samurai HDS which was basically purchased because of the price of about $25 (college student...). I didn't take long for me to realize that with a cheap saw comes poor performance: poor/slow cutting, blade getting clogged while making bigger cuts... etc. Anyways, I'm just curious of what other guys are using and what I should consider.

I like the overall length of the saw, but I don't know if a straight or curved blade is better, what size teeth (for general use). I guess I'm looking for the best bang for my buck of course, but I don't want another cheaply made saw either.

Thanks in advance,
roelex

This has been asked and answered a number of times before. I think a little searching will find an answer.
Whatever you get, plan on replacing the saw/blade a couple of times per year at minimun.

If it is earning you money, go Silky and don't look back. I like the Sugoi as the main goto saw. I have an Ibuki that I got for a good price. It is heavier and has a wider kerf so I don't like it as much. The Gomtoro is nice, but a little too small. I have used a Zubat a little, and it did OK...but still like the Sugoi better.

Apparently, there is a better line of Samuri (Sumo) saws. I haven't tried one...just the cheaper one (Ichiban). It cut fast to start, but slowed down quickly.
