Has anybody milled bull pine that is typical of South Jersey?

I am wondering if anyone has rough cut and used bull pine as trailer decking? I have a 6 ton trailer with the cross members on 18" centers. I can get nice 24" by 30 foot long arrow straight pieces of bull pine almost anywhere I look. My Dad had some milled for siding and it lasted for 25 years, would still be there if a fire didn't take the building out. I am on the fence as to it being worth the time for a trailer deck.

Rough cut oak is the ideal wood for trailers but I think pine would be fine. It just will get chewed up a little more if your loading a machine with metal tacks because its a soft wood. But if you have the pine use it up.

i have used it on car trailers before.. it seemed ok..i live in NH and we have it growing every where also

If it is anything like SYP bull pine, I wouldn't use it. Our SYP bull pine is so resinated at the knots, you can throw a 2x4 up in the air and it will almost explode on impact. We use sweet gum or oak for trailer decking in our area.

I can definitely see the knots as an area of weakness. I just may have some milled up to see what it looks like. It won't go to waste even if its deemed unusable for a trailer. Thanks for the replies. This section has me itching for a mill now, just what I need, more toys.:msp_unsure:

The mill that did the siding on the garage hasn't been used in over 25 years, an old circ mill with a 1930's Mack tractor that was cut up and supplied power to it. I still know the family and have may inquire about it.
