Skiing Friday.... so if you cut it don't destroy the lower trunk -I want every inch to mill. Might pull it over saturday morning if I have time..

The neigbor is in no hurry for the trees near the house... and you'll need to requote him directly - complicated..

it is really messing up my Stealhead season. Too much muddy water.

Not to hijack, but how are those sea-run steelhead to catch? I tried fishing for them in upstate NY one winter but couldn't get the skunk out. I've always loved catching rainbows...I was wondering if the sea-run versions were much scrappier than the freshwater versions. Do they fight better than rainbows, pound-for-pound?

I'd say yes. Especially wild, west end fish, compared to hatchery fish. For gear fishermen, a big spinner or roe works really well. I watched an old man I used to rent from catch three fish on three consecutive casts with roe. He'd limit out every day. I'm a flyfisherman, which limits me due to water levels (I can't get a fly down as quickly as a guy with conventional gear). A fly fisherman who catches a couple of steelhead in an outting is having a good day. You'll have big days were you do hook up multiple times, but to go out and not catch a fish for several days is common.

Oh, lordy!!! Look out Andy, you might get stuck up there!

My body needs a rest.....

Right on, Andy!!

"Ski to die, die to ski"

"To turn is to admit defeat"

"Leave no turn unstoned"

Alpental beckons me manana.....it's still nuking at Stevens, I'd not wanna do that drive tomorrow...that's if the road is even open.

Course Snocrummy could close as well.

Couple if of big hits, but it's up right now.. HOWLING WIND though... More trees to clean up tomorrow... sigh...

We had about 6 or 8 transformers go within maybe 15 minutes. Close enough to light up my kitchen. I think it's going to be awhile. Good think I didn't put the gen away. Good think I still have lots of fuel too. Maybe I get to work on wearing out that new 441 again tomorrow?

You need to read "A river runs through it"...

Great movie, inspired me to go get a decent fly fishing setup from the local Orvis dealer. I got marginally proficient with it in the back yard, but I didn't find enough open moving water here. I lost a lot of flies in overhanging trees before I gave up. I did manage to catch a couple little 1/4lb fishies tho.

(Before I start this post, I'll say that this is not directed at you Ian! ;) )

I've been fly fishing for 17 years, and you could actually watch the rivers fill up in alot of parts of the country after that :censored: movie came out. Yes it's a good movie, but it's an actual documented phenomenon that everyone saw the movie and decided to go be a flyfisherman. Rivers in Montana were actually crowded to the point of being almost unfishable at times because of all the River Runs Through It guys.

Now, that in itself is a hassle, but not a "problem" in itself. Everyone is welcome to come fishing, and for whatever reason they wish. The problem was that most of these new "fishermen" were rich doctors, lawyers, bankers and the such that thought they owned the river and everyone who fished there who didn't make at least six figures and didn't wear $300 waders (alot at the time) was just poor white trash. I was run out of places I'd fished for years by guys who came through with their $4,000 worth of shiney new everything and just thought they were better than me because I wasn't smoking a $25 cigar.

Alot of them have since given up and you can buy their stuff on ebay for less than they payed for it!

Ian, you want to take it up again, lemme know!

Yup, I got into fly fishing (only cause I ran out of ANFO and squibs) around 1994 and I know EXACTAMENTE what you're talking about Jeff...except I was on the Potomac and not one of them Designer Rivers out there...I can't imagine how PO'd you boys must have been!

What I'm thankful for is that now I fish the saltwater bruisers and I don't care HOW much yer tackle shines or yer GQ fashions rate or yer Monte Cristos cost...you're getting SLAMMED AGIN THE GUNNEL and you may not be able to LAND this fish...just stay in the boat...wimp...so take yer SEEgars and shove em up yer Amadou patch...and goddam don't let me see SLACK in that line agin!

:deadhorse: :hmm3grin2orange:

River Runs Through It shee-it goldarn GULFSTREAM runs through it! :blob5:

Hehe... yep, you're right, that certainly didn't apply to me.. I was freshly divorced at the time and living in a 600 sq ft cabin way out in the woods. I had a genuine outhouse complete with a cup in a bucket of lime to drop on top of the leavings, no indoor toilet. Nature's calls at night involved shoes and a flashlight. I did have a shower and kitchen sink, but the drain water just ran down the hill out back. Generic Rice Chex for breakfast, and 15 cent ramen noodles for lunch. I lost 30lbs that summer cutting/splitting wood to keep the insanity at a distance. I guess it worked... a little. :dizzy:

Why do snobby idiots have to ruin such a cool sport.

My favorite thing to do is drive up to the river and park my beat up, lifted, muddy old 1979 GMC 3/4 ton next to all the brand new Subaru's, Land Rovers, Expeditions, and other yuppie rich guy SUV's, put on my beat up old blood-stained duck huntin' waders and a flannel shirt, usin' oversized hikin' boots for wading shoes, with my garage sale rly rod, and my old-school Pflueger non-drag reel, with a small flybox in my pocket with some extra tippet rolled up inside of it, and walk in to the river, and start fishin' water that has already been "fished" by the 'tards that look like they just walked out of an Orvis catalog, and catch 2 fish on 10 casts.

These dorks that looked down their noses at me when I showed up, are now askin', "What fly'd ya catch that on?" "Is that a sink tip line?" "What size tippet is that?"

My thought is always "....you talkin' to me?" I always show them some obscure fly that no-one in their right mind would fish here in the PNW rivers. Get bent rich boy!

Y'all could have kept that wind over there on the west side. It reached here E Wa about 10 p.m. Haven't heard any reports of damage and haven't seen any from the windows. Ever boot myself in the rear and get moving I will have to check all my roofs and trees. It was blowing about as bad as that big one at Xmas time. Cleared my yards of the 6" of snow that fell the prior night, Don't know where it got to as I see no big drifts. Definitely didn't melt as my patio is still iced over from the skift of snow that was on it last evening.

HA! I also looked at your profile and you fish and hunt right? You fished before you "flyfished" right? That's the other big difference. Most of the River Runs crowd had never been fishing or anything remotely to it. They were suddenly great "outdoorsmen" overnight. It was, and still is ridiculous.
