I've gone through two pairs in two years from my climbing spikes pushing my heel inward. would a steel shank arch solve this problem or should I just save my money and buy throw-aways?

what you pay for them boots? almost 2hundo a pair? thats almost 400bones right there. maybe you should look into them wesco's or the likes if you are in your spikes that much.

Years ago I wore redwings. Comfortable nice boots. I went through three pairs of the loggers in two years. I have had wesco, buffalo. I know have the hathorn higline made by whites, but about 100 bucks cheaper. Fit is as important as durability. I stick with them cause they do both. But wescos wont come apart like the redwing either. In the woods cutting firewood, hunting, or tree work my redwings always blew the sides out even the ones with the extra leather on the sides. I agree with what was mentioned above. Time for another brand.

you moan about a pair of boots falling to bits after a year of use, harden up and get your wallet out, i kill a pair of boots in about 10 months, the best ive found are australian made BLUNDSTONES i can get almost 14 months out of them if im nice to them, which is never there a disposable item in my book and they cost near on $ 300 a pair.

I would much rather new comfortable boots every year rather then wearing a worn out pair of ####ters for 3 years stuff that. feet are important gota look after them.

i buy my workers a new pair of boots every year with a limit of 300 bucks, they can buy 2 pair for 150 or 1 pair for 300, aslong as they see out the year.

If the blow-out is in the welt, then yes, a full shank reduces the shear stress between the the layers of material. If you look at how the boot flexes as we bend it at the ball, the sole moves a wee bit farther then the welt, then the upper. This is the shear stress that causes the failure.

A wide rand helps some too.

I had been wearing redwing loggers for twenty years with no problems..

Then they decide to go and change the souls on them. The last two pairs, the heel came separated in the back. They made it about ten months.. and the tread wasn't even that worn on them.

I got two free pairs out of the deal though: the first they replaced, no charge. The second said they couldn't, so we sent a letter. They sent me another brand new pair - with the old school style souls too! ..so I really cant complain too much I suppose.

I'll probably just keep buying them since I'm so used to em. I usually want a new pair every year anyway.

Get youre wallet out? TREE OPERATIONS wher are you getting 300 dollar climbing or logging boots thats cheap. I have the hathorne highline made by whites. They have outlasted anything I have ever worn, including wescos, and comfort thats all I wanna wear dude they are so comfotrtable. You just seemed a little sarcastic guys asking a legit question. It sounded like you thught he was being cheap? You aint gettin a pair of anything here for 300 tell you that. Not redwings either.

I used to swear by Redwings also. Now I swear at them!! I am a lineman and the heel would pull off after about 3 months. I switched to Georgia Boots and have had excellent luck with them. Alot of the other lineman spend the big bucks and go with Hoffman Boots.. they are great boots also but cost alot more.

Hoffmans duraliners from Bailey's here.

$226 shipped to my door.over a year and a half on them and no signs of failure.I will buy another pair I ever have to.

Best boots I have ever owned.

It just gets me because everything about them is fine except the displaced heel. lots of treads left on em. I tried to have them fixed but it just wasn't what i expected. What do you guys suggest from wesco? Maybe I'll just try out those hoffmans. going into winter and the last thing I want is an unstable heel on the ice or snow.

the way i read what people are saying is that you dont like how much you have to pay for your boots.my sarcasim wasnt aimed at the orginal question.
i live on a island in the south pacific and our prices for things are all over the place. to give you a idea how screwed our prices are a bandit 250 with 140hp motor going to set ya back close on 80k and its going to take 5-7 weeks for it to arrive.

i no longer own a pair of logging boots as im not a logger, im a aborist, if i can avoid wearing spikes i will leave them on the floor as long as possible.

Red wings aren't red wings anymore....they are chicom wings. Dragon commie red chicom wings.

I just pitched a pair of loggers myself...junk. Didn't know it till I got them home and noticed the tag said "made in china."

I knew right then they would be good for nothing....they were that.

Yep. They're junk now!

Hard to imagine someone would just let what used to be the best, go to crap like that though.. bastards!

There is a lesson here though, if you think about it.

Right on tree operations, wasnt sure its all good man! Fact is so dam many things are so expensive, but you dont get the quality anymore. Other than a few brands of chain saws, there isnt much good quality anymore.

As God is my witness I wear sears die hards without a heel , I cut the slot for my spikes so I get more padding on my arch , I ching when I walk on driveways and streets but I have worn the same boots for 2 years now with 2 DR scholls inserts in them I can climb in them all day no foot pain ..And they are great for a footlock the rope doesn't fall into the arch and slip...

My previous climbing boots were Redwings, which I paid $300 for about 3 years ago. I bought Carolina boots from Shoeline.com a few months ago and are completely satisfied with them. They are waterproof, very comfortable and cost me only $90 with a discount coupon. Shipping is free, you also get a return label to send it back if it doesn't fit or you don't like it.
