I'm not sure if this is done here but in most forums I frequent we tend to request an intro post, so here is mine...
My name is Fernando and I live in Dallas, nc. I was born in Puerto Rico and moved to NC at age 28. I am into camping and use a bit of firewood in the process. I belong to a flyfishing group and we have about 6 set camping trips a year and we really burn wood then. I am the designated fire keeper of the group (I'm a pyro at heart. Lol!) and do bring part of the wood. I also tend to have small campfires with the family on the weekends and such.
I figured that I better get a hand of all that "free" wood in craigslist instead of buying it. I had feel trees as a youngster with an ax. The chainsaw is a new toy and have been reading about it trying to learn about how to use this tool and the entire wood harvesting process.
I got me a Husqvarna 365 as my first chainsaw. I got it off craigslist. I almost did not buy it. The saw was a about 45 hour drive one way and I left the kit I take with me to test when I buy a motor. The young man that sold it to me works cutting trees which I learned about that while on my way there I thought that the unit could had been abused. In the other hand it could had been very well taken care of because it is in the pro better interest to have a good working machine. When I saw the machine my heart felt. Maybe because I'm new to the chainsaw scene. But the chain looked rough... No chain catcher, no protector, bar but no chain, chain cover been chew off in a few places, throttle spring broke and no fell dog (screws missing and you can see where a tread kit was used in the holes). Then not having my compression tester made me feel very uneasy. Then his very pregnant wife shows up. They wanted the money for the baby that was due in a week. Few memories came back n decided they needed the money more than I did and took the chance. Took the machine home. Took it apart, degrease and clean it. Greased and oiled per the shop manual. Installed the carb kit, chain catcher, protector and add the 20 inch chain. Got to read about chain saw techniques, ppe and such. Having fell trees with ax in my youth I can see the extra needs for ppe and was very intimidated with a machine that is moving a chain at 70 mph and will cut my limbs in a fraction of a second. I headed to my deer lease and at noon with everyone back at the clubhouse I went to fell a dead pine tree. I have 2 of the guys spotting me and real quick the tree was down, bucked and I had a smile in my face. I still haven't check compression...
So I will be reading and asking questions here and in the equipment forum. Looking forward to learn from y'all!
Thanks!
