Helmet Sweatband Replacements

Local STIHL dealer quoted me $8 a piece (!) for replacement sweat band liners. Theses are just a thin strip of synthetic cloth. There must be reasonable alternatives at a buck or two a piece.

What have people found?

Try using one for hard hats or a welding shield. They should be a lot cheaper, but haven't tried it.

I cut strips from dollar store microfiber cleaning cloths. End up about twenty cents each.

My Bullard uses a microfiber sweat band that is fixed to the suspension. I pull out the suspension and wash the whole thing in the sink. Microfiber towel strips and a few needle and thread stitches would b le simple.

This is for shared equipment for a volunteer group, so it has to be ‘stupid simple’, and affordable.

I found some on Amazon for $2 - $3 a piece (search for ‘hard hat sweatband liners’). We may try some of these.

But there have to be some for hard hats, etc., that can be replaced between users. Hoping another A.S. Member might have a source of a product that they have tried and can recommend.

I haven't tried or used them. Price point is at under 1.50 each.

Depends on how it is used / treated. Our PPE is shared, so it can get gross fast.

It depends on which helmet you have and who originally made it for Stihl. Over the years they were made by A-O Safety, Peltor, Tasco, etc. I don't think that they ever made their own helmets.

For the Stihl 886 helmet (xxxx-886-xxxx Forestry Helmet) which was made by Tasco you can buy the whole hygiene kit for about $6. Stihl lists the part number as 0000-886-0408.

I figured this out by finding "Tasco" molded into one of the helmet plastic bits.

In Nov, 2020 I bought 10 kits from www.earplugstore.com for $5.67ea. I don't see them on their website now. Each package has a barcode on it "6-6272860005-6". Google doesn't find this number either. I would call the vendor. Maybe they decided to stop carrying them or Stihl found out and made them stop.

In any case if the pads are still sound I would throw them in the washing machine. Also 3/16"-1/4" neoprene makes a good replacement for the ratchet pad.
