Help! Stihl 290 new chain smoking

The OP had one post in February and hasn't been seen since. I'm hoping one of the moderators will delete this thread.

Bet the chain was on backwards and he felt too foolish to reply.

They may have made the mistake I made once, putting an 058 gauge chain on an 050 bar. The bar was so worn that I could get the chain on it but after it ran for a while it tightened up..
