Hi i brought this saw about 2 years ago from a secondhand yard . I did not really want another Chainsaw but it seemed to cheep to leave behind .
The saw runs well but needs a starter any info on this brand of saw and where to find a pull start unit would be much appreciated Thanks

twist a rope

I belive that there was no starter for it you used a short rope and wraped it around the crank and gave it a yank. like the hot saws.

If you do a search on e-bay for west bend engine parts, you will find that there several types of recoil starters available for this application. West bend made both right and left hand rotation recoil starters and Fairbanks-Morse made starters for this engine also. If your search for west bend parts comes up dry, search for "Rokon" or "Sno Runner" as both of those applications used this same west bend engine.

Yep, I had a go-cart with a 3.5hp briggs that you started like that. Put the knot in one of those notches, wind it up and give it a yank. Mine had an oil bath air filter and if you took the corners too sharp, the oil sloshed into the intake and laid down one heck of a smoke screen. First time it did that, I thought it was on fire and dismounted in a hurry.
