Wintergreen means birch family.

...smells like wintergreen...are the smells similar ?

Wintergreen is used in many medicines... including many cough syrups, throat lozenges and mouth washes.

Is still say the two splits are black birch. The more recent pic of the two rounds, closest I can guess is Hophornbeam. Try and split one and report back to us, or get a couple twig pictures, that would help a lot.

Got this one today, was blocking the road so it had to come down this winter. Is this an elm ?

sure looks like it although I have never cut one with bark on it
