Man, I really felt it today. Got an emergency call today on a large Maple leader that had broke over a house due to wind. It was hung up pretty good and no real danger of it blowing out and hitting the structure. Took me about an hour and a half including travel time. Didn't get on site until 1 pm and it was already 92. Had to set a line and ascend on a rope with my ascenders about 45'. Once I got to the top I was really light headed. Had to take a load off and call for a drink of water. I'm not used to the heat yet. It usually takes me about a week to acclimate to the weather once it gets into the 90's. Looks like I'll have plenty of opportunity this week, 99 degrees forecasted for tomorrow and high 90's with the possibility of 100 degrees all week. Summers are brutal here.

The season changes always do that to me but once the first 2 or 3 weeks go by its all good. Do you have dry heat by you or is it real humid? Im good untill its 90+ with 100% humidity. God does that suck. When theres no wind, your dripping sweat just standing in the shade.

TG we have dry heat here. It has been known to get 110+ here though. It is humid as hell right now because of the recent rains. That's why it feels so hot now. I have lived in Memphis and Atlanta before where the humidity makes it feel much hotter than the temps. Memphis is the hottest place on earth I believe.

High 90's and daily thunderstorms here in coastal SC. It is STICKY. This is why the South started to really boom only after A/C got popular.

I live between the 2 biggest lakes of the Finger Lakes. I can do the heat but the humidity get's to me fast. When they say "like pea soup" they weren't joking. We got hit with 95 around April, skipped spring right to summer for about a week so I've adjusted already. Trying to find better ways to beat the heat. Sun glasses and cold beer is about the only way so far!:givebeer:

Exact same thing here in TX too, even tho I have already seen 100, the weatherman just can't bring himself to forecast 100, all week it just says 99 degrees, lol. Makes people think it's really not that hot yet. But I love it, bring summer on.

Our summer hit for a couple weeks in late April.....since then it's been RAIN!!! The weatherman said that we had rain on 17 out of the last 19 days. The rest of this week.....you guessed it "RAIN" Everyday till Monday. Very, very frustrating!!!

Today was hot but all I had was to small trimming jobs. Both went real quick and there wasn't any clean up. Tomorrow it's going to be 95 and I have to remove and clean up 2 good size maple trees. That will be a rough one. Usually it's just dad and I working. Because of the heat I called another guy to help.

Scott

I added a 3rd guy too. The heat/humidity was awful last week after storms, but it's drying out now. N. Texas is supposed to be around 99 for the next few days. Gotta put on my thinkin' cap and schedule any removals in the morning and trim jobs in the afternoon. We'll get some shade that way.

The heat has been pretty bearable here so far this year. The weatherman was just saying the other day however that we are behind on the weather patterns. Should be about 10* warmer or there abouts. Calling for rain here for the next SEVERAL days, so I'll be doing a lot of errands. I have to say though, I've got a few white pines to prune that are over the water, so I figure what the heck, gonna get wet anyways (have to go wading out with the pole clipper to make the cuts), maybe I'll go do it one day when it's raining.

It was 106F a couple of days after I arrived here. I was working in a tented warehouse and thought I was about to expire. Since it has cooled down to the high 90s. We start work at 0630 to beat the heat. Right now at 2130 it is still a balmy 85F outside. At least it is dry, albeit dusty.

My groundman took two trips to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. Said it took him about a month to get used to drinking cold water again when he got home. He worked at the local mill for a little while when he got home but it wasn't working out for him. I think he had a little trouble adjusting when he got home. He fits right in the tree world though. He works magic with my ropes.

Thanks for your service Jumper.

I honestly believe that you either have the genetic predisposition to work in high-heat/high-humidity conditions, or you don't. My right-hand man, Dan, and I can zip right along in 100F+ temps and 90%+ humidity, while some of our ground guys, at 1/3 our age, start dropping like flies after less than an hour, even with hydration. This week I got spoiled by AC breaks since I was working on the trees at one of my rent houses. When I went out on a regular call, I felt the heat more than usual, since I was missing the regular AC breaks. I told Dan that maybe I'd start bringing the RV and keep the generator going and the AC blasting. Then we could duck on in, have an ice water out of the fridge, watch a little TV and take it easy every hour, or so. Thing is, that might get us a reputation as :censored:, and we are definitely not :censored:!

FWIW, Austin had no Spring. We went straight to Summer with 95F+T/90%+H.

Spent some time around El Reno, OK. The heat is only 1/2 the story there : add 20-30mph wind to 105 in the shade:mad:

Brutal

SG, I believe the same thing. I am good to go in the heat after I have a week or two to acclimate. I NEVER get used to working in the cold. I hired a guy from KS a couple of years ago. Good guy, around 29, graduate of KSU and working on his masters here. He was 29 and a college football player. He supposedly held some kind of record for squatting the most weight at KSU. He was a moose. We started out that morning and he was running limbs to the chipper, ribbing me and telling me to hurry it up "pops", lol. It was 106 degrees that day. I was 38 at the time and my other guy was 46. At 1 pm I was carrying logs from the back to the front and it was on a creek bluff. No easy terrain. I called for him and my other guy said he was laid out on the back deck. I found my other groundman trying to spoon feed him cold water while he was laid out on his back. After I got over my concern for him I LMAO and let him know what I thought of his "pops" comment. :D

Slinger, I hear you. I have to do my second wind damage job of the week tomorrow. Large leader on house.
