101 in Ponchatoula today, a few miles from my house, and 70% relative humidity. Heat index 108. Too hot for an old man to be up in the trees. I'm taking a break this month to build a hurricane shelter. With weather like this the Gulf of Mexico will be one big jacuzzi by August. Then you guys can come on down for some big time hurricane cleanup.

Jumper - Ditto to tree md. Thanks for your service.

I honestly believe that you either have the genetic predisposition to work in high-heat/high-humidity conditions, or you don't.

Not sure if it is genetic or if it is climate conditioning.

I can work at zero or minus 20.. but can not easly take the high heat. On the other hand, it rarely ever gets to 100 here.. and 80% we would consider high humidy.

Once it gets above around 80 everybody has air conditioners turned on.. yet if it is around 60 everybody is quite comfortable.

To take this further, if it is 40 or 50 in the early spring, everybody is outside with t-shirts on.. saying what a wonderful day it is.. yet if we had the same day in August everybody would have a coat on and be complaing about the cold.

Bank at Benton Ar where I did a job yesterday said 101 it felt like 1001 I promise. We always have high humidity and temps but still no where near as bad as south east Texas.

My groundman took two trips to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. Said it took him about a month to get used to drinking cold water again when he got home. He worked at the local mill for a little while when he got home but it wasn't working out for him. I think he had a little trouble adjusting when he got home. He fits right in the tree world though. He works magic with my ropes.

Thanks for your service Jumper.

I am here as a civilian-the real heros are the troops to whom I redirect your thanks. I work long hours and have not had a day off since I got here, but what our soldiers are put through here makes my effort pale in comparison. I can understand why your groundman had a period of adjustment when he got home. I know I did after the last time, and I was a REMF.

I agree with another comment about becoming used to the heat. The first week here was sheer misery, being two weeks removed from a snowfall, bu today I actually felt OK at work despite being covered in filth and dust(we were counting tires and repair parts)

Supposed to be 101 here tomorrow. I have been carrying swimming trunks in my pickup so I can bail from work to the pool when necessary.

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT
THURSDAY...

THE EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT
THURSDAY FOR TULSA COUNTY.

HEAT INDEX VALUES OF AROUND 105 DEGREES WILL BE COMMON ACROSS
MUCH OF NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA THROUGH THURSDAY. ISOLATED HEAT INDEX
READINGS MAY APPROACH 110 DEGREES. THIS COMBINED WITH NIGHTTIME
TEMPERATURES ONLY DROPPING TO BETWEEN 75 AND 80 IN MOST AREAS WILL
RESULT IN A SERIOUS STRAIN ON THOSE WHO MUST BE OUTSIDE...AND THOSE
WHO CAN NOT FIND AN ESCAPE IN AN AIR CONDITIONED AREA.

THE EXCESSIVE HEAT WILL CONTINUE TO SLOWLY INCREASE INTO THURSDAY
...AND WILL LIKELY PERSIST INTO THE WEEKEND. THE ONLY REAL
QUESTION TO THE FORECAST IS THE DAY-TO-DAY CHANGES IN HUMIDITY.
AS THE HEAT CONTINUES AND THE AREA GRASS BEGINS TO CURE THE
AMOUNT OF HUMIDITY IN THE AIR MAY DROP...BUT THAT WILL JUST ALLOW
THE TEMPERATURE TO CLIMB. THESE SUBTLE TRENDS WILL BE MONITORED
CLOSELY AND WILL CONTROL HOW THE EXCESSIVE HEAT EVENT EVOLVES OVER
THE REGION.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER THE EFFECTS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT CAN ACCUMULATE OVER A NUMBER
OF DAYS.

THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE
A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF
FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM IF POSSIBLE...STAY OUT OF
THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

NEVER LEAVE ANY PERSON OR PET...IN A CLOSED...PARKED VEHICLE.
TEMPERATURES INSIDE CAN REACH OVER 150 DEGREES QUICKLY...
RESULTING IN HEAT STROKE AND DEATH. ENSURE PETS HAVE ADEQUATE
WATER AND IF OUTDOORS A SHADY PLACE TO REST.

Has anyone found ways to beat the heat. Does the Under Armor advertised stuff work?

I love underarmor kinda crappy for climbing and cutting in chips and all jab and poke at you. But it does keep you cooler since your shirt doesnt hold the moisture.
