Hey all,

I just wanted to say Hi and I'm new to this site.
Just a little info, I've been doing landscaping for 2yrs now and I'd be interested in getting my ticket to become a cert. arborist!

In sept'04 I'm taking a landscaping design program at my college and it includes 2 courses in arboriculture that will allow me to to have a wider understanding about trees.

Just curious though, whats the going rate for arbortists? I have no idea what the terms and definiations are..

Anyways, I'm just reading the topics and just getting a basic understanding!

Thanks All

ad in paper for arborists, experienced, $13-15/hr.

The archives tell all. Searching is easy.

Ya, a customer that I serviced asked me to give him a quote on a tree removal..

Its a cedar tree that is approx 60ft high.

I said I can't do it, sorry..

But I was curious how much the other guy asked? he said about $800 to remove the tree not including the stump grinding?!?

You'll have to find somebody to remove the stumps! Now I thought it was part of the tree removal, I guess not?

You guys find that you have to find a guy that does stump grinding? How much do you guys charge for stump grinding anyways?

1 inch = $2?
:p :p :p

with stump grinding and any other bidding ..go on apearences the bigger the house the more $$..give um a price like $15 they'll jump at it then when they go to pay say hold on buddy thats per inch :D

or for tree work tell em $250 again they all jump at it,then when finnished and they come out with the money say wo there MR thats per hour..and always stretch the job out into an allday affair to make it highly profitable

only jokeing guys

We strive for $80 per man hr. I pay help $15-30 per hr depending on experience and job title.

I usually price the stump separately, that gives the customer the option of leaving it. I also leave a number of wildlife snags....

Stump grinding should be based on total area ground, figured three dimensionally....never simply by the inch. Eg, a 24 inch stump ground 6 inches above and 12 inches below is ~9 times more work than a 12 inch flush stump ground 8 inches down. Plus the amount of roots and root swell that need grinding must be factored in.

1990 was talking to my best bud and he said with being a 3rd generation logger I should have no problem being a Arborist!
He told me about a 3 day weekend course at a local college and I would be set
I would learn to climb in stead of felling and all the rigging I would need!
What a complete joke, good thing that silliness died with our beers!
I took a apprenticship course for two years and now own my own company.
Here is the kicker!
I still know squat in the grand sceam of Arboriculture
Lesson?
Keep learning and don't ever think you know it cause you don't!
Be safe
John
