Got a brand new 681 Solo in the mail today .. The one I bought @ Baileys last year had the crank break @ 11 cord of wood ....... I spent alot of time in Prudhoe , and the person who was supposed to send the saw in didn,t , so this summer I did , then Back up north I went . A number of missed communications , but finally every thing came together .. Only ran 1 tank thru it today , with of all things , get this , a 16" bar ..... Ran great .. It looks like there are some up date on the saw from last year , not sure , but I think the mount springs look a bit bigger . which I think is a good thing .... The 16" bar and chain is for a test I,m going to do concerning oil on the bar and chain when cutting in the snow ...... I,m suprised ,that right out of the box it is turned right up .... I,m keeping my finger out of it so far ....... I hope and pray it turns out to be a good saw , as 800 bucks is and expensive experiment .... PS the saw looks really wierd with a 16 " bar

Thats a little to far into the use for a saw to break for me. I hope that first one was just a fluke. Heck of a time to get a new toy when you can't really get to use it.

I,m using it now as I,m back in the interior . I,ve only spent 4 months this year in the Arctic .......... I forget the poster / member who has a Dolmar shop in New York as near as I can remember ..... He has full wrap handle bars for the 7900 Dolmar that will fit it I think ..... That made me think to check .. The molded in area for the wrap handle to screw in looks different than it did on the previous saw .... It would be nice is USA or that other company that makes aftermarket wrap handle bars would make one for this 681 Solo ... The pic of the 7900 Dolmar wrap looks pretty odd ,,,,,?????? oh well .

i have seen a few sachs dolmar saws here, and am aware that it is just dolmar now.where are the powerheads manufactured? locally or abroad?(like most other saws)hoping you have better luck with this saw!,,,and im sure your not going to the interior without a back up plan;)

Hey Tramp, what trade keeps you north of the Brooks, things sound pretty grim this winter.

away up north !!

I,m a Union Laborer . I work for a Dirt , Bridge , Ice road , and other building construction company on their union side ... I,ve made as good a money bushlin at times . . But never for sleepin on the bus ......... The Slope is a strange place . Being on an oil field is a whole lot different than an ancient boreal rain forest , thats fo sho ........... But as a laborer , the principle is the same as workin in the brush .. out work every one else on the crew and you got a job . Don,t be an ignorant prick about it , like some guys do , and you will get along with the NON TIMBER BEASTS .......... It,s best not to intimidate them too much ..........
. I,ve met a number of cutters and helicopter riggin men up there .... They see my staged off pants , and some comment like , I used to wear pants like that .. Then we start seeing who each other logged with ..... Friends of mine ,laborers ,,will say , OH you guys are loggin huh .............I really like alot of things about the Arctic , but I don,t want to live there full time ......

Solo

Tramp Bushler, you spend time in the Chitina area? I drove through there this summer on vacation on the way to McCarthy.

Ya , I,ve only been to Chitna once so far ...We had a major fire down @ McCarthy this summer and the smoke was more than just thick ...I think the bar is still there.. I think there is a log cabin bar there . Some place burned there last winter , it was right there on the main drag ...... Hope to get down there this coming summer ..... Thats getting pretty combat ,snagging out to your neck ..:) ..........
