I was wondering if any one else here makes some of their own equipment and tools. We are making a log dolly that we think will work well for us, and will post pictures as soon as it is done. Also plan to build a large log sling for getting larger logs out of yards. I would just like to see some(PICTURES) of the tools and equipment that some of YOU have made that works for you, Thanks!

handmade tools

I have made this "rope nut" which works as a rope wrench, for ascending and descending on a single line. It is 6 oz. and has aluminum side plates and uses steel chain links, with one roller for the friction points. Smooth as silk.

Nice engineering

Thats a pretty cool looking piece of equipment, Do you entrust your life with that? or is there a second lifeline?

Actually if it were to fail completely it would not be life threatening, as the hitch below would be life support, just as on a doubled rope It allows the hitch to release on a single line just like on a doubled rope, only with a friction saver only a few inches above the hitch. To answer your question tho, the ANSI size 80 roller chain links used in the picture are rated at 14,500 lbs breaking strength with the steel side plates installed.
