Have most of three sitting in pails, boxes and a coffee can. Careful of the little clip that holds the choke rod on its button. Having to much fun with my $8 Super EZ Auto to sort the mess out right now.
On a side note if one is offered a free saw one should take it because of the #12 screws that may hold it together that you can't seem to find anywhere.

150ao

I have a Homelite 150AO. It was my first chainsaw.

The "AO" stood for automatic oiler maybe?

My mom and dad bought it for my birthday in 1977 when I was living in an old farmhouse and heating with wood after moving 400 miles away up north. I was about 25 years old.

There was a big boom in wood heating back then so with birthday money in hand I went to buy a low-end chainsaw that October, but the shelves were nearly bare. The only saw in my price range was the 150AO so I bought it. I ran that thing for about ten years. Put a 3/8" chain on it as I recall. It cut a lot of firewood and built this log house too. It never blew up but the starter got worn out. Don't remember how badly it vibrated but it was loud. I remember it had a simple felt air cleaner and the spark plug was in a deep recess and hard to get at. Later I wished I had gotten a Super EZ which was a more conventional design, manual oiler, and with a sparkplug out in the open.

I retired the 150AO around 1986 for well-used Jonsered 451AV. I still have the 150 and it's in running condition more or less.

............. I recall the clutches were weak. After replacing clutches again and again ............Brad

I am not sure what problem you had with the clutch but I do not remember there being a problem. The 150 was a decent saw. If some one was interested in some new ones I have a couple new ones yet.

I burned up two clutches over a three year period. It was my first saw and I was young and dumb (more fun than, ahem, middle aged and dumb :( ) so operator error is a definite possibility. I was mostly cutting dry white and live oak.

You have new 150s? When did they cease production? I hate to say this (making sure wife isn't looking over my shoulder) but how much?

Brad

As for middle aged that is a point of opinion and never a fact. I believe the last 150's went out in the early 1980's. I will need to take a look at the last date. They were decent saws. They were not pro saws but they fit the bill for what they were produced for. As for price I am open to offers.

Bill
