Can anyone heelp me out here? I tried doing a search and could'nt come up with anything. I was at my fathers yesterday and he handed me an old homey240 and asked me to look at it. I put a new plug and some fresh gas in it and got it running but its not getting any oil to the bar. I pulled the screen out and it looks clean. I did a search this morning trying to find an IPL to find out where the oil pump is located and found nothing. Any suggestions as to what i can ckeck or where the oil pump is located? Thanks

Here's the page from the IPL that shows the oil pump. I've never worked on a 240 so I can't offer any great help.

Good luck,
Dan

First try taking the bar and chain off and cleaning out the oil hole and slot in the bar mount. Some gentle proding with a pick or the flexible straw from a can of wd-40 into the oil hole wont hurt.

Once you have this cleaned out you can run the saw with the side cover off and look right at the oil hole to see wether there is oil coming out or not.

If there is oil just clean the bar hole and groove and your GTG.

there's a one way valve on the side of the oil tank called a duck bill valve, that will blow out and your oiler won't work. you can check if it's gone by filling oil tank, put cap back on and tipping saw sideways. if it leaks out the valve is gone.

you can pull the starter cover off and see the rubber valve i mentioned.
iI should explain a little better, take the top cover off, there's a pump with a diaphram you can remove and check. thats what pushes your bar oil and creates pressure in the tank. if you pull the pump you can blow through the line to oil outlet to see if it's open. hope that explains it a little better.

The oil outlet line is not connected to anything down below. It's line 15 on the diagram above.I can't see what it is suppose to connect to by looking down in there. Do i need to pull the flywheel so i can pull the tanks out to connect it or is there something else i can do? Thanks for the help guys. My dad will be a happy old timer (72yrs.)if i can get this saw working.

one line goes into the oil tank, the other line goes to the front down by the out let to the bar. you should be able to see both areas with a lite. not necessary to pull tanks. if the one is not into tank i can tell you how to get it in there. the other one you can put on with needle nose pliers.

I'll look again in the morning. I think it might be the one that goes to the outlet to the bar because i shot some brake cleaner in the oil hole and some sprayed up by the air filter. Thanks again for the help Sugerbush. I love this web site!!

I got the hose reconnected today. Still no oil. I checked the hose first to make sure it was clear. I could'nt find that valve on the side of the tank. Ya think i should just buy a new oil pump?

that valve is on the side of the tank and you can see it when the starter is off. it looks like the end of a pencil eraser with a hole in it. i'll look and see if i've got a used pump. undo the hose to the tank and blow through it to make shure it's open and it's down in the oil.

Both hoses are clear. I found the duck bill valves. Thet are both still in the tanks. I took one out,see why they call em duck bill. Have any luck with a used pump? Gary

I found a 240 but the pump is missing, take your pump apart and check the plunger and diaphram, sometimes the plunger will get sticky. wash the parts up with carb cleaner and squirt a little oil into the pump area before reassembling. but if the diaphram is damaged then you'll have to replace it. there is a gasket where the pump bolts to the engine but very seldom leaks. but should it leak the pump won't work. hang in there.

Confused

My pump bolts to the front of the handle housing with 1 small screw.

never seen one with just one screw holding the diaphram cover on. all i've seen have two. but thats only part of your pump. the main body bolts to the engine with four hex headed screws. in that body theres a reed valve, but don't think thats your problem. check the diaphram and pump.

I have'nt had a chance to work on the saw for a couple days but i have been trying to find a new or used oil pump or a parts saw on ebay. If anyone knows where i can locate a pump let me know. Gary
