Okay all you fellers, it is a done deal and I am on the way home. More details and pictures to come, boy this thing is CHERRY!! Nicest old feller you will ever meet and he simply fell in love with the little Super EZ Auto, when I left his house the rain had let up and he was tearing the wood pile to pieces. I am so excited about this saw that my hands are actually shaky, it could very well be the nicest saw I own.

WOW... that was fast...:msp_mellow: Glad a few people turned you on to the saw...:dizzy:

that's a DAMN good deal for you.

I'd have traded him a VERY clean SXLAO for a 540-8800....

still needing stuff, WHEN you come across more; thanks for trying, my friend ;)

Congratulations! Keep your ad up and find me one...

They are thin to say the least. John put a stihl boot in the one I have(540) but I swapped it out for OE.

ARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH! Thats where that saw went! If it is the same saw I am thinking of, that thing is cherry. I called and called and thought I had a deal worked out and then all communication halted. Figured someone bested me on price or something. Did that saw have the 064 boot on it?
BTW, I found a Homelite obselete parts collector (I dont know that he has a computer) that can get boots around $35 last time I checked.

Oh...... It was no even trade but I feel I still came out on the better end of the deal, though I am sure he probably feels the same way. The seller was a 76 year old man who could not easily pull the 8800 over anymore, so he was tickled with the decomp on the EZ. He said he bought the saw new, though he could not recall the year, and it has done nothing but light firewood work. At first he was not to sure of the EZ because of the small size but I watched the smile grow once he got it into the wood, it is no 88cc power but they do quite well for themselves. I also gave him a parts unit and a couple extra sharp chains, so he should be "set for life" now. He ran the PM 10-10 and XL-12 but the decomp and AV on the EZ won him over. I also left him my number and told him to call if he ever has any trouble out of the saw. Stay tuned because I have pictures uploading to PhotoBucket now.

Jay and Gary,
I still have my feelers out and I will eventually turn up some more saws and/or parts, I already have a lead on a local man who has a "chainsaw boneyard". Hopefully my current luck will hold out and some saws/parts will be along very shortly.

I am still scratching my head that you pulled one of these up in this short of time. Happy for you and all, but perhaps with a small taste of resentment haha. May be your neck of the woods, I can almost guarantee I could put a $1,000 bounty on a 540 or 8800 on my local CL and still come up empty handed. As easy as this saw came to you, I hope you know how rare these birds are.
I am fascinated by the design and all, but I think I appreciate them so much because they are so hard to get.

Pull up a John Deere 550CS as easy as you did this 8800, and I will piss in my boots. Heck, Ill take pics to prove that I did it too.

Oh, and last but not least Mr. Watkins.... GREAT SCORE, and rep sent! If you decide to sell, put me on the list.

Wont let me rep you Johnnie, have to spread it around. Could someone get this guy for me? And another thing, do me a favor and play the 4 digit lotto tomorrow. Yeah, you guessed it 8800. Im pretty sure at this rate you will win.

Yes I believe it was a 064 boot. The saw ended up on the bay. I paid 47 for the one I got local. Ordeered through ryobi if memory serves me right (and it doesn't most times LOL) Very minty

You know.....I came to arboristsite for the subject matter but the company makes me laugh and stay

I should have guessed. I dont check the bay as much as I should be. Oddly enough, the 550CS was found on ebay while searching for "John Deere chainsaw" something I never do. It was fate haha.

Tell you the truth I have seen these saws show up on my local CL several times this year. In March a runner with a parts saw showed up In Fincastle VA and there was just the same deal in Rocky Mount that I missed out on. These are just the two that I recall clearly but I know there has been at least one other that I believe was in Bedford VA.

Well...... Here it is.......

AV on the E-Z? Did you trade him an XL-1 VI, XL-Mini VI, or 250 VI? I've never seen an E-Z labled saw with AV. Just the VI models I already mentioned. Glad it worked out for the both of you. Keep us posted about the "chainsaw graveyard"...:popcorn::popcorn:

Look at how clean the saw is inside.

 :chainsaw:

Johnnie,

I'm GLAD you made out with that one! NICE NICE NICE example... You seem to be a really genuine guy, down to earth, and it's nice to see a 'good guy' make out for once....someone that doesn't have a TON of saw-cash to be tossing around made out GOOD for once.

good Stuff!!

Jay

Major congrats , Johnnie. That 8800 looks like all it did was make a few (very few) trips from the shed to the woodpile then back to the shed.
