1130g question
Question for the homelite guru's.
I'm working on a new to me 1130g thats been leaking gear oil since I first filled it up. While looking for the leak I found it was coming from the end of the sprocket shaft near the drive sprocket. When I sprayed air in the hole, it pressurized the gear box.
I removed the gear cover and while checking the sprocket shaft found a hole near the splines that leads to the hole on the end. It's just like this guy was talking about on This Thread post #14.
He went and JB welded it, but it seems to me that there must be a reason for this hole? Is it an overflow?
Any help greatly appreciated.

I have 2 of those shafts brand new in the box.
One has the hole you speek of and the other
doe's not.
I did a full restore on a 3100 and as far as i know
it use's the same shaft and it doe's not leak oil.
So i would guess it doesn't have the hole.
Why the hole is there on some, I have no clue.
I would say plug it.
Also, Make sure you don't over fill the gear box.
Fill to the bottom of the side hole.

Very strange.....I would guess that this saw didn't always leak it's gear oil out the backside.
Maybe someone else knows what the factory hole is there for.
Bottom of the side hole, meaning the threaded plug on the cover?
how did that 1/2 pitch chain work out for you?

A few posts ago there was a discussion regarding the designation of the 9-23, 9-26, 900G/D, 909G/D, 990G/D, 995G/D saws. This old dealer manual could provide the answer! From the attached pics you can see that there is a section listed for '900 Series' saws. It is an early manual, with many saws from the early sixties and others contained in it. You can see that it also has the XL and XP series machines catagorized as well.
Would be good to see what saws are indeed contained in the '900-series' section. This document came straight from Homelite, so the answer would be gospel for me! Hopefully someone here can get the manual and answer the question for us all. I would have a go at the auction, but it is for the US only.

Having not dealt with a disassembly of the more 'modern' Homelite geardrives such as the 1130 and 3100 machines, is it possible that the hole is a gearcase vent or 'breather' port ? I know that saws such as the 900G etc have a gearcase breather line which vents through a small hole on the sprocket side of the gearcase, but have not had any other geardrive Homelite in pieces to see what the arrangement is. I have had a look at an IPL for the 3100 and it appears that there is a vent in the filler cap ?

Yes the threaded plug on the side cover.
It is a brass plug that takes a regular flat
head screwdriver unless it has been changed.
The 3100 i did has the 2-1 gear ratio so i wanted
all the chain speed i could get and am running
404 full chisel on a custom 10 pin sprocket.
Cuts very well.
I do have other 1130's with 1/2 and they cut well.

Brought (2) Homelite 360 Pro's home yesterday to work on for a firewood cuttin' buddy. He wants me to use both to get one going. They are completely different than anything I'm use to. He says one has a bad coil and the other is a bit low on compression. Don't know if here is the best place or the "Beg" thread, but a manual would be nice to have if anybody has one. Also, what's the best way to check for spark due to the plug wire design? Never run one of these things, but my buddy is crazy bout'm. They feel like a lead weight to me.

sorry I haven't bean on in a bit --- it depends on what you mean by big --- I have c52-600d-a lunch box mac.-ez6 - david Bradley 360-2-360 pros-an ez and ez auto - and about 10 other small saws - forgot the Lombard co-mango and Clinton d65 - does any of that count as big lol

I have a complete(other than chain tensioner) super 2 that's not running right now but is in great condition otherwise with bar, chain and case. I've tinkered with it a little but don't want to put much time or money into it. I'd let it go real cheap to have a few bucks for another project if any of you are interested.

doing alright just bean packing and moving to a new house -- finale getting back to the country after 3 years of living in town -- moving into the house ware Iv bean cutting wood all winter -- around 25-30 acres of mostly hard wood fore me to play in -- hedge -thornless locust- maple -oaks -mall-bury - and many others like that --- its heaven to me --- how you bean good I hope

squirt mix in carb and try to start -- if you get one going you will know why he likes them -- I forgot to mention even though they are the same type saw their are slight differences in them sometimes -- like air-filter covers - mufflers -carb linkages small things like that

I just put a new P&C on my 750, and I have it tach'ing out at just under 11000 RPM. Is that correct, or should I lean it out more? It is just slightly two stroking, from what I can hear.
Where the heck did you find those ? :msp_confused:
RPMs sound on the safe side. You could probably lean it out a little bit.
Acres says 11K-12K no load speed. The "4-stroking" sound is usually easy to hear on old saws.

LOL yeah they are tough to find.
chainsawr had a new cylinder, and I found the piston on ebay. Paid a lot, but well worth it.
Good for you Don...sounds like paradise to me. We moved back 3 years ago too....had to get the kids out of the big city.

this town isn't a big city but is the most corrupt town I have ever heard of Iv even seen the cop selling pot to kids and smoke it and drink beer in his cruiser and that's the good stuff -- but I belong in the country I cant breath in even a small town --- hows the saws going -- theirs a real nice c51 on eBay I am trying to get real cheap rite now but if you want to get it and upgrade to a bit bigger let me know cause I have a c52 already so i really don't knead it
I think the saws are breeding ...I hear funny noises out there sometimes. I am not sure what they are up to.

their calling to you telling you you want them -- cad gets bad sometimes -- I had a weird day I didn't find a saw I wanted so I bought 2 riding mowers 140.00 fore both
