Nice Ric! I'd LOVE to have a 9-series ashtray like that. Methinks Randy speaks of the stamped starter cover used on these saws. Usually long gone (neither my EZ or 900D have 'em). Wendell's saw still has it. Randy has one he uses to ash his Havatampa's in. Anybody see the overpriced Homelite hardhat on feebay?

tried to find a hard hat listed but only found sold ones.

must be coming back in style now :jester:

Looks like I will be joining you fellers here. Aaron shamed me into buying a 909D which I will be picking up on Monday. I'm sure I will have lots of questions.

Congrats on a nice looking 909D. They are great old saws, and you will come to love them as many of us do.

From left - 900G, 909G, 990G and the last of the series - the 995G.

From that C-5 I could use the throttle trigger lock pin (fast idle lock), spring, and clip if you have them (many C-series saws seem to be missing them......including mine). Would be interested in the clutch drum too if it's a rim-drive type. If the fuel tank's a non-leaker and is in good shape then I'd be interested in that (and the fuel cap). Also wouldn't turn down the carb and a bag of screws from the saw for spares. Sorry for the laundry list...:cool2:

I'll be interested in seeing what's up with the C-72 and C-91 whenever you get to them (either for parts or projects). No hurry though......:popcorn:

Can do on the throttle lock assembly. The clutch has a spur sprocket on it, not much wear, .404x7, but I'll let it go if I can find a .375 for my "good" 5. Right now it has the same 404x7 spur, but worse shape. You're SOL on the gas cap, it had a good crack in it and grenaded when I tried to get it out. Tank may or may not leak, but it's been siliconed at the seams at some point, and now needs gas cap removal surgery. Carb and nuts and bolts are on hold pending getting the other saw going, but once it's running I'll be willing to part with some extras.

PM me an address and I'll put that throttle lock in the mail. Let me know what you think about the rest.

I recently acquired a 330 from 1980 something.
it doesn't run yet, but I'm gonna sand it down and repaint it.
and look at the problems, i guess its the fuel line :(

My Guess while your in there to replace the Intake boot. Its cheap, but 9 times out of 10 they are wore out on them 330's
Also Pay attention where your ignition wires all go I have tore down 2 of these saws before, there easy once you do it once or twice LOL
 
My C-5 is a runner now!

I bought it without a clutch cover, and the recoil wasn't working. It was a back-burner saw for a while, even though I got a parts saw a little while back. CSMXX needed some parts I had, so I finally tore down the parts saw for him, and figured I might as well get this one going while I was at it. I gave it a carb kit, fuel lines and filter. Off the parts saw came the clutch cover and recoil assembly. The recoil on this saw is nicer looking, but the dogs are shot. I'll eventually get them swapped into the better cover. It started on about 10 pulls, and once I got it going and the carb adjusted, it starts on a single pull now warm. It's LOUD with the stack muffler, and shakes like a frickin Harley. These aint bad things on an old horse like this though!

.404 chain is filed to the nubs and not real sharp, but you can dog this old beast in and it just grunts a little more. It'll be fun to play with when I get a new chain on it.

Just got done installing a new piston and rings in my super xl-925 and was wondering what is a good no load RPM to set it at. Acres says that it has a operating rpm of 7500, but is that load or no load? I checked it a few minutes ago after making some cuts and its around 7500 but it sounds a little rich. I dont have alot of experience tuning older saws so i figured i had better check with the experts. Thanks

I would imagine the operating range would be with a load. If it sounds a little rich just give it about 1/4 turn or less in on the H screw.

the chainblade cover was really damaged, so i repainted that one only.

I just finished one of these myself. It looks just like yours, but had no spark and a leaky gas cap. I replaced the cap and installed a electronic module. The thing runs like a champ now. Ya gotta luve a 57cc SuperXL motor crammed into a super EZ body. A regular factory hotrod there. I will probably use it a good bit alongside one of my 750's. Great pic BTW.

That saw should run quite a bit faster than that no load. I would think if it was running that rich, there would be quite a bit of smoke coming out the exhaust. You want to tune it so it is barely 4 stroking at WOT no load.
