chips

I finally got around to watching that video. next time we have a saw racing GTG up here I am going to make a new contest. Biggest pile of chips.
Rewatch that video and watch that pile grow.

7-29 and 5-30 have the same bar mount correct.

Score! Homelite Super 1050

Got a Homelite Super 1050 today! Weighs in at 22lbs and throws down 6.1 cu. in. (100 cc) of power. Traded a muffler modded poulan 2150 for it. The guy cam into my shop today and was going to try and sell the saw for $100, well I knew the owner, knew the saw, knew it ran well and instead I offered the little trade and boom! It was mine! The paint is peeling all around but the saw is otherwise actually in REALLY great condition. It had a 20" bar on it but for the fun i decided to toss an old 42" I had laying around on it! She looks mean and runs beautiful! Im proud and happy to own an old american original.

Well, because you look like an old time bucker, I'll bump you to the top of the list.
I don't have a real high interest in the belt drives, I have had several, including the big ones and I pass them on to those who want them. I'm keeping one, a decent 5-30N, needs a muffler.

He sure does look the part Randy. Big, Husky guy (wearing suspenders) bucking with a big old Homelite. He's into International Harvester Corp. products too. Sounds like someone else I know.............just taller...

Great score! You got the better end of that deal by far....

Edit for addition of personal Homelite content:

Well that's a relief. Picked up some freebee saws this morning with the youngin'. Three were XL12/SXL family saws (one with a 20" roller nose, possibly a Cannon or General). Brings the whole Homelite/McCulloch thing back to its propper balance.:ices_rofl:

That makes five additional old Homelites in about 10 days. Total cash outlay is $50. They've all been within about 20 minutes of my house too. My CL ad is starting to pay off. Should have another biggie on the way in a couple of weeks from a friend on AS. Also have another CL ad respondee that I need to call. He's over an hour away, so hopefuly he's got something worth grabbin'. It's like playing the Chainsaw Lotto every time one of these guys answers my want ad. Been some duds and some gems. Best thing to come out of that ad so far is my XP1020 with the Cannon RN. Got some McCullochs lined up out of that ad as well. Nothing close to me on the Mac front yet. Got a Super 250 on the way from Cliff. Bit of back and forth with someone here about another desireable Mac. The balance may shift again......but it'd take a while for the Yellow to catch up with the Red/Green/Black/Blue/White. I'll shoot some pics of the recent Homelite CL scores once I get relieved from babysittin' duty...

Big, Husky guy

Nah, I have a few Husqvarnas but I ain't a Husky guy. For years Stihls outnumbered everything else I had. Now, Homelites rule the roost.

Oh wait, you mean I'm no slender reed. Only way to be so you don't tip over picking up one of these 'lightweight' Homies.

XL12 Paint

Finally I find a can of PlastiKote spray paint in the PERFECT very light blue metallic (#882 Classic Metals Crystal Blue) laying around at work. They gave it to me, so I can at last redo my early XL12 ($10- yard sale find). I came home to look it up so all you guys could get some too- wouldn't you know it's discontinued .

Another can I have of a current color, metallic light blue Duplicolor auto touchup would be fine for the later more vivid Homelite blue though.

That's funny Chris. I actualy was gonna type "stocky", but decided on "husky" instead since "stocky" usualy has a 'shortness' factor in it, and you don't look short in that pic. I'm no "slender reed" either (and I AM short). My CB handle was "fireplug" for a reason. Not going to be climbing any trees anytime soon. The thought did occur to me that you may get the "Husqvarna" meaning instead........:hmm3grin2orange:

yup yup, its all about the hat when yer cuttin.

best to have one that shows up bright and is waterproof too. :hmm3grin2orange:

Ah "the hat". That's what we need to bust out whenever Randy starts kicking us for lack of pics. The hat isn't Homelite Red, but it's close enough for our purposes....

Thanks for doing that research for us John. The early Homelite blue is extremely dificult to match up.:agree2:

Nice score! I haven't seen that decal type before nor the green grip on the handle. Also looks like it has the air bypass idle adjustment like my 1050E. Wonder what year it was made? Maybe a mix of parts from different years?

Alright, got that video of the 770G fixed and uploaded. Tried to go back and edit the original post but I guess that time has come and gone.

Also, uploaded this one of my Super 2100, from the summertime.

SLXA crankshaft seals

Now I'm into this saw further than I intended. I had to make a vacuum pressure tester in preparation for repairing a Husky Rancher 55 that my neighbor gave me, so I decided to test my SLXA. And it wouldn't hold either vacuum or pressure. Under pressure the clutch side seal leaked like a sieve. The saw's in pieces so I guess I'll replace both crankshaft seals.

According to the only IPL I've found the flywheel side seal has a part number of 12282A, available at CM Small Engines.

According to that same IPL the clutch side seal has a part number of 58308B. I can't find that seal. (It could be my search technique, but I did search.)

Calvin, if you see this, do you have the clutch side seal for my saw, suffix: AO, serial number: 03326520

(And if you're looking for stuff, do you have or can you get a Zama choke shaft 0041102 for a Sears 358.796354 hedge trimmer?)

If you examine the seals themselves you may find a National or CR (Chicago Rawhide) number. Homelite didn't make their own seals, they bought 'em from a supplier just like everyone else.

Given the style (single lip, double lip), shaft diameter, the housing bore, and the width you can likely just look it up in a CR catalog.

Same deal with needle bearings, roller bearings, tapered roller bearings (Timken) and radial ball bearings. Look for a mfgr. number.

Thanks L36Driver,

I knew that. But if CM small engines has the part it saves me a bit of research, the price is not to far from the cost of a the same part from a bearing supply house, and I support a forum supporting supplier. (Mostly it saves me time.)

Yup, one stop shopping.

Now, if someone can tell me who has the crankshaft thrust washers on hand for an XL2 (part #11 in the exploded view I have) I'd be gratefull. Homelite likely did make their own on them. Only reason I havn't torn down "my leettle friend".

Edit: Found 'em on ebay. #69093-A or -B. BIN $8. ea. Seals and bearings seem to be "Unobtainium".

150 Auto Serial Number Look up

Is there a link to Homelite serial numbers? Recently acquired 2 150 AO's. 1st ser#180680273. 2nd is 12710829. Thanks in advance. Not really looking forward to working on these, but they were inherited from my FIL. RIP, Merle.
