Hi,

The Homelite Part No. for the piston you are chasing is: A-57090. This is confirmed as the same piston assy for the 900G/D and 909G/D saws. I will need to check my IPL's to see if it is the same number for the later series saws - 990G/D etc.

Best of luck finding a replacement.

Chris.

Thanks for the part # info Chris (and the good wishes). What kills me is that there was an NOS #A-57090 piston on feebay a few months ago, and for a decent price. The CAD voice in my head told me to buy it (again, 'just in case'), but somebody else 'bought it now' before I was smart enough to listen. I kept telling the voice to shut up, as I'd not likely find a restorable 900D/G saw for a decent price for a lonnnnnnnnngggggggggg time...:censored:

Now a 900D with a scored piston will be coming my way soon....:givebeer:

Yes - the old dilemma of should I or shouldn't I ?! Pistons and parts in general for the big old 900 series seem to be few and far between, so I grab whatever I can - within reason.

Does your 900D have the nice big original ribbed muffler still fitted ? They look great - my 900G is fitted with the smaller / later style muffler assembly, so still looking around for one of those as well. Oh the joy of hunting for parts!!!!

Regards,

Chris.

Sorry man, I got that NOS piston. Also have a NOS cylinder and conrod, but they aren't going anywhere. I have 5 of those saws so those parts are valuable to me.

And yes, that piston works for all the 2 5/16 bore engines.

Homelite 450 (Craftsman 4.5) muffler removal & IPL

I had my Homelite 450/Craftsman 4.5 out today to check it over before attempting to get it running. This' my first attempt at working on a Homelite.

The muffler has me puzzled. I found the two screws that obviously have to be removed, but the muffler won't budge, so I'm guessing that I'm overlooking something. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, & if someone has an IPL &/or Service Manual that they could share that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Chris

There's 2 more bolts on the side portion. One is on the lower left as you look at the saw from the clutch side, and the other is on the top front part of the muffler. Send an email address and I'll send an IPL.

Hi,

Not having worked on the 450 before - Does it have another screw which secures the muffler to the cylinder from the top? I am looking at the IPL for the 550 (not sure if they have a similar muffler config), and it looks as though it has an additional screw (to the two which secure the muffler assy to the exhaust outlet port) which secures the muffler to the cylinder as described.

Hope this may help.

Chris.

It has the later, smaller muffler instead of the cool ribbed/fluted one. Chris B. posted some pics of the 'big style' muffler a while ago. Those are cool...:D

I had a feeling you'd grabbed it up Chris. I waited just a bit too long to make up my mind. I actualy went back to my 'watch list' to get that piston once I found out about 'my' 900D...........but I think you'd just grabbed it.

There was a conrod listed recently too. Is that the one you grabbed? An NOS cylinder too? Wow. If I saw one of those listed I'd grab it for sure. I don't blame you for wanting to hang onto those parts (although I'd be happy if you changed your mind........LOL).

Now to go back to feebay and search for XP1000-family and 900-series pistons and jugs again...:bang:

Yep, got that conrod, too. If I can find the right crank, I'll have a complete NOS reciprocating assembly. Already have all the bearings, seals, and gaskets.

Got any NOS XP1000/1020/1050/1100/1130G pistons? How about 2000/2100/3100G pistons? Betcha do...

NOS 2100 pistons, I have 2. One of them was recently installed in my Super. The other I will use for sizing a cylinder when, and if, I ever get another one replated.

I don't have the other since I didn't have any of those saws until very recently.

There have been some 2100 pistons on ebay recently. I was hoping to see a few more.

Bill

I saw one of those recently on ebay. Still keeping my eyes peeled for 1050 and 900D pistons. Contacted 'the Greek' on ebay. He says he'll have the 1050 pistons back in stock in about 40 days. I'd rather run an NOS piston if I can find one for reasonable money, but will try one if his pistons if need be. There were several NOS 1050 pistons and cylinders on ebay for about a one year period....................that ended about six months ago. Not quite sure what happened...

Hiya fellas. Anybody know of any Homelite rim setups that will fit a 1050. I got a nice new pretty bar but its .58 gauge and only .58 I have is 3/8s and my 1050 is set up for .404.

Thanks

Lookin' for a few parts.

Got that nice old 7-21 from Farley9n a few months back (Randy made me do it!) and, with a bit of tweaking, it runs like nobody's business. Now I wanna actually use it.

Here's what I need:

bar/chain (currently sporting a 1/2" sprocket -- I could make the setup from my DB fit but it's only 20")

Here's what I want:

.404" sprocket, bar/chain to match
"Ashtray" recoil cover
fuel cutoff valve
air filter (I have 2 but they're both pretty rough)

Also trying to swing a deal for a minty 540 right now. Gonna have to cough up my good ol' 026, but I'm sure I'll find a replacement for that much easier than another 540 in this condition.

I should probably post some pics, too. Best get crackin'.
