The Homelite Zip

I got this one in a 3 saw deal. This saw is HEAVY! Ive never touched a saw this old or heavy. I finally got around to going thru it tonight. The saw is complete and has the orig bar, looks like a 20". Its real dirty, but not too beat for how old it is. It had gas in it, looks like coolant now. The starter handle was broken, I tried turning it over just with the knot, wouldnt budge. Took of the "muffler" (haha) and the piston looked good no scoring. I sprayed it with pb blaster thru the port and thru the plug. I let it sit and tried again. She freed up! The comp feels good and you can hear it sucking. Checked for spark, no dice. Right now I have and S25DA, and an 024 to finish up before I get to the Zip. What you guys think of these?

You probably know this, but if that Zip doesn't already have one, a C-series bell housing and rim sprocket will fit the Zip which will make chain selection a lot easier.

Here's my most recent acquisition. A 9-23, although...the handlebar is wrong and so is the muffler. Nevertheless, with some TLC--clean and set the points, new fuel lines, carb diaphragms--it has proven to be a good runner. Even has a good .404 spur. I had to supply the muffler from my inventory, but that's what's great about old Homelites. That 4-bolt pattern muffler is used on a LOT of different saws. The bodies change, but the bolt pattern doesn't. All I need to complete it is the throttle lock assembly. It is a bit tricky starting without it.

Yeah, I cut one out of aluminum stock. Had to modify the bar tail also. I've had this stuff for quite awhile, though. It's just convenient to use it here.

I'm happy with this saw, that's for sure.

I'm glad you're happy with it. The other handlebar was exactly the same but in much worse condition. I'm thinking the old guy couldn't find original 9-23 parts so he just used 990 parts.

Maybe I could talk you into making me an adapter too?

OK - here's one you'll like.

That's one of the nicest Homies I've ever seen. I have an EZ myself and I'm going to follow your lead on it later this winter. I've already picked up a NOS top end for it.

Thanks! Got a lot of time in it and was fortunate to find some NOS parts. If you run into any questions on yours, feel free to PM me.

my bets are on the saw will last longer

Hello Homelite gurus. In my local CL theirs a Zip for sale for $60. I'm scratching my head whether or not to get it. Does the price seem little high or fair?
Whats your opinion?
The posting: "homelite zip saw. runs but pull start needs work."

thought i would share with folks online version of IPLS for the Homelite saws such as the older 60s 50s 70s 80s models are in the works of being scanned pdf filed and uploaded to the server yes i own a second and third and fourth and fifth domain names and yes i am using one of them for these pdf files to be hosted at unlimited bandwidth which means it is much easier for me to put them files there due to bandwidth traffic issue
right now i have 26lcs zip xl-2 loaded on there

you can view them by going to my store click on the company tab scroll down to Parts list and manuels click on Homelite page then you will see the files there

i have it set to where it opens in a seperate window
keep in mind the site i use is owned by me thank you

Hello Homelite masters.

Just need to know if the XL921 and 925 share some of the same parts. Like the tank/throttle and the case.

And would a Homelite original EZ need the damper and muffler materials on the muffler?

Thanks

Only to prevent foreign objects from getting in - and for looks. I just cut a piece of small expanded metal to cover mine.
