Homelite XL12 bar and chain question

I finally fixed my XL12 up, after having it sit in my barn for the last 10 years. saw came with a 16" bar on it. I bought an older 18" General Chain Bar for it. i am having a hard time finding a chain local for this. i know the saw is 3/8 and .050. A few chains ive tried were in the 20" package. any 18" were too short.

Count the drive links on the old chain and have a dealer with a good service department spin a chain up for you

I went today but the guy was off. id like to figure out a chain i can order. my other local hardware store that carries more was closed. sunday wasnt my day

Ill find out tomorrow when i get to both places. bar is so much thicker then all the newer bars. wanted to keep in the same era

It's pretty common. Tractor supply has trilink in that size, cheap and works for me

My tractor supply doesnt carry oregon chains. they had countryline and johnsered chains

Is the #of DL's you require to fit your 18" bar not stamped on the bar? Oregon quote either 64 or 66 for ther bars fitted to that brand/model of saw.

The bar is blank. Nothing stamped on it like every other bar i have seen.

Got a winner today. My local Stihl dealer had a 66dl that fit perfect.

I assumed he was trying 66dl chains that did not fit. Guess you have to be wrong about something every day.

Lowes and Homedepot and Tractor Supply only had 70s or bigger or 60 and smaller. My local place was closed yesterday lol

That's weird my tcs had that exact size replacement bar and chain for mine also 18" d176 mount 3/8 .050 66dl
