I am looking at a homelite XL925. It would be used as a backup saw to my Dolmar 7900. I cut a lot of dead oaks into firewood, they are often over 24". Would this saw pull a 28" bar in dead oak? what would it be comparable to in stihl or husky? thanks

It should pull it. I've got one with a 3/8" skip chain on a 30" bar and it and it pulls it cut fine in dry pecan. Oak would not be that much different.

I use a 925XL with a 28inch Power Match Oregon in hard Maple. That has to be as tough to cut as Oak. I swap to a 20inch bar for smaller stuff. It cuts circles around my 365 Husky..buts its a full 80cc vs. 65 for the husky.

I have always wondered the same thing myself. I have never ran a "Modern" saw

The newest saw i have is a husky 55R & my 925 will kick its A$$ but it also weighs twice as much & has 30 more cc's

Anybody have any comparisons ??

I'm not a modern saw guy, I much rather use my old saws, it makes me appreciate history more. though I do have a few modern saws in my possesion, like my 670, or my 024, not exactly new modern, but good proven machines.

Homie 925 will have plenty of power to cut what you want, and will probably keep up with most 044's. The biggest problem is the weight and the lack off anti-vibe in the handle, they will vibrate the heck out of your hands and arms. Also no chain brake on the old Homelite so be careful.
