Any guesses?

I use to do that all the time, usually the wind would catch them and blow the down the line............don't know how you did it...

how did you get it off.........

That's not exactly a fair question.

Show us some pictures of the work you did, and we might be able to figure it out from there.

Until I get more information, here is my best guess:

You were using a heavy pine branch as a ground anchor for your hot air balloon. When you saw that it was going to hang up in the power lines, you barely raised it in time, snagging one twig that got left behind?

Another likely reason: A newbie was using your big shot to set a rope in the nearby spruce. not knowing what he was doing, he supercharged the shot, and blasted the twig out of the tree onto the primary?

Nope, we didn't work on either tree in the pictures.

The question is, how are you going to get it out without using a bucket truck?

you were using a stihl blower and it blew all they way up there?

Who cares, its never going to hit the neutral as well, could stay there for years, no problem.

You are probably right that it will never hit the neutral wire to cause a short, but it would be interesting to see what people come with.

this reminds me of a situation we had once with the same thing, the crew left it and over the weekend the wind pushed it over to the pole and it was long enough to touch the top of the pole and it kicked the fuse out.....

Years ago when I used to prune trees away from primary wires in back yards for Toronto Hydro, there were a few times guys would cross phases. You will never see a piece of dead twig light up so fast. We never had any grounding, we only had "hold offs" to protect their equipment and enough time for you to break the circuit if you are being zapped. The only time we had a grounding was when we had a removal and only 20 minutes to remove a 20" DBH Siberian Elm.
