I remember seeing threads on transporting chains. Given a chance I prefer to transport them stretched out. BobL had some nice pictures.
But now I've gotten so I'm carrying 2 or 3 saws back and forth from Virginia to Mississippi monthly, depending on the mission. The powerheads aren't bad, but I like to bring several bars per saw, and several chains per bar. It builds up.

I was thinking of building a long carrying case that would fit several bars (5?) on edge, spaced so I could mount dowels in between and wrap chains for the bar next to them around the dowels. Sort of like a long rifle carrying case.

I'm also thinking what the heck, wrap all the bars in a towel and toss the chains in a bucket.

Anybody have plans for a "bar case"? Dimensions and materials? Not a mini-bar case :) Maybe a modified rifle case.

/edit like the Pelican 1750, http://www.casesbypelican.com/pelican_1750.htm

I sleeve my bars in an old piece of fire hose. Put a pop rivet in one end and cut to length. Get a Sharpie and write the bar length on the side of the hose for quick reference. Stuff is indestructible and many fire stations give it away. One spool will last you forever.

I thought of this before. I haven't done this yet but maybe soon. With a table saw this could be fabricated in a couple hours. I made this box 30 years ago to keep the straight edges from getting chipped and such. The piece that holds them just slips into the box.
