I went to my Stihl dealer.I loved the feel and weight of the 361.I was just wondering is it about as good as any 20 inch saw for around 550.00

361

You won't be sorry. Except stay away from this website... or else you will end up with a sig like mine and many others here!

Dave Neiger ran and timed a Stock 357XP vs. Stock MS361. He posted the numbers here on AS. If my memory serves, the 357XP cut faster and was repeatable. No doubt they are both good saws, and both seem to be pretty popular. Just buy both and see which you like better.

Some won't agree but the 361 is light years ahead of the saw it replaced.........the 360.

Never did like the 360 but really like the 361!!!:D

I liked the 360 too! Still do... but they are different machines.

Just do a tiny muffler mod to the 361 - it has a lot of bottled up "GO" inside just waiting to breathe..

Lake...

Did you ever mod new muflers for the 361 and send them to interested 361 owners?

If you did/do, I would be interested.

Saw Troll needs to ship us some Free Euro mufflers...

I don't know how good the 361 is compared to a 357xp... I wish I was rich enough to buy them both and run them side to side for a while. See which one I like most...

But I'd hate to have to sell a Husky:hmm3grin2orange:

The 361 is such an awesome machine. You know you are doing something right when Husky owners like the saw.

A few, but I'm two behind right now... Other pressing matters (my forest has a mass of crap "half down"..). PM me in a couple of week, but don't tell anyone else... but really - it's not that hard...

Beware of Chainsaw Disease

Yep. BEWARE! My sig used to not have the MS 361 on it. :hmm3grin2orange:

Hanging out on this site will definately lead to chainsaw disease. CD will lead to ownership of saws that you would not otherwise buy. You will wind up upgrading your purchases of saws to something better than you originally intended to buy, or even need. Then you will wind up buying backup saws, and saws in ranges from small to large, for specific tasks. Then, ever so slowly, you will start looking over on the HOTSAW threads. At first you will just to look there for amusement. Then, again ever so slowly, you will start to think about chainsaw modification. You will dream about bigger and more powerful chainsaws that are lighter and easier to use. They fly through the wood in your dreams. Then you start to go down to the chainsaw dealers and drool at the saws, and start to haunt Ebay for deals on saws, and look in the paper for chainsaw sales. You also find yourself posting more and more on the AS site about chainsaws, and get into big and hairy debates about specific issues regarding chainsaws. This of course feeds the fire within, and you wind up with more and more chainsaws on your signature. Then people start to wonder why you have so many chainsaws, and why you know so much about them. You find yourself talking about different types of chains to people that you do not even know at the coffee shop. You think about multi-bar situations for your saws. Yes, by then you will hvae full blown CD. You will need to attend CD Anonymous, and say:

"Hi, my name is Scott, and I am a chainsaw-a-holic..."

Shifting gears for a moment

The 361 is a great performer. Now having gotten that out of the way I'd like to pick on the biggest flaw the saw has.

No disrespect to you stan, but the one thing that drives me nuts about this saw is how frequently it's brought up here. I'd normally say "run a search for 361, or something" but you'd have to sift through endless pages to find what you are looking for, including this one!

I'm done, but for the record I love this saw and I haven't heard anyone that owns one say that it's lacking.
