how late can you cut a oak tree down and still make good firewood

Wood will season just fine in a pile as long as that pile is in full sun and wind. I windrow mine and it does just fine.

I have cut Red and White Oak in the spring and burned it in the winter. Might not have been ideal but it worked just fine.
