Shucks ole Gyp has got saws, tractors, skidders.I don't know if he ever got a truck or not.I on the other hand have only clipped a house once, unfortunately my own, duh.

I did smash a tool box once with a D4 Cat if that counts for anything.I also rolled a big oak right over the hood of the same D4.I don't hope to ever repeat that little trick.

XJ, the moral being, never lend out your chainsaw, weedwacker, or wife.

Ultra, it was only superficial and buffed out real nice.

Speaking of wrecking things, check out this cool barberchair.
I'm looking for the smashed tractor picture. lol

Thats about as classic a barbers chair as you will ever see!!!!!

As usual John,,,, great photos

Oh man, that looks dangerous. What do you do about something like that? What do you do when you've hiked in there and don't have a truck and chain to pull on it?

I guess that's what the back cut is for?

I think I barberchair approx. one in a thousand trees. Caused mostly by felling in high winds or sometimes leaving a dutchmen after deciding to change your knotches half way thru the felling cuts.

440, the pipes are both 5/8" id. I have devised a great way to put the pipes in. With a large centre punch and hammer, dimple the the centre of where the pipe will go, then drill a 3/8" hole. Then I take a tappered reamer in a slow drill and ream the hole so it's a press fit. After aiming the pipes correctly I then braze them. A better pipe to use would be a copper reducer from 5/8 to 3/4, with the small end in the muffler. This method makes a tighter fit because of the taper before brazing.

I'm kicking myself now for not taking picutres...:bang:

Last week my 084 had a 30" sweetgum rolled on it by an ignorant excavator opperator. Looked real bad but straightened out OK. Close call.

Gypo...do you get extra points if it's a brand new 066 (two of them actually) and the cat-skinner nails both of them their first day in the woods?

I've had two saws pinched at the same time, but never wrecked two at once, however, I did bend two bars at the same time once.
I have only done this once though.

Gypo, you're not the only one to do that. My buddy did the same thing, except it was to a franklin 170. And he didn't have the cable on the tree. He had the skidder sitting to the side of the notch, at like a 15 degree angle. And the tree decided it didn't want to go that way, and landed right where your's did. Is that a 540 or 640 JD skidder? She looks good!;) :D

Ya, it's funny how things happen sometimes. Here's how the initial setup was. Lol
The iron is a 540A. I feel a bit prouder driving that than my Kubota, plus a skidder is like a moose in the bush, while a tractor is like a deer.

That is very true, a skidder is a moose and a tractor is a deer. And a skidder is BUILT for the woods. A tractor is not. John, which way did you notch the tree? Looks like you had the right amount of leverage. And Great pics! :)

I once gave a 488 shindaiwa its death rev,i can remember it because it lasted a few years of doing what it was suposedly meant to be able to do.

540a is a great tractor :)...i owned one once...now i own a 545...cant wait to use it in the woods...uhhh ok...i owned a ford 540a tractor lol...not a 540a JD skidder...
