Truth

Client recently had half of a tan oak split and fall, narrowly missing her house (some branches hit the roof, but not even a shingle was disturbed), in a storm. I went and cleaned it up for her, but I had to turn down the other half of the hazard tree because I don't carry insurance. I have all the tools in the world, and the experience, but it was far too compromised to risk her house getting smashed and no recourse for her. She probably paid 5x what i would have charged, but she finally accepted that that was the cost of the insurance I can't offer.

From what she said, the guys who came to take it down were really confident at first, but soon found the mush and limited holding wood on the face side to be troublesome.

My biggest fear was the hinge/holding wood giving out on the house side, coupled with the limb weight, allowing it to compress on the stump and fall to the right into her house. Seeing their aim, and where the log landed/branches ended up, it tried to steer right on them. Even my stout griphoist wouldn'tve been enough for guarantees.

I've applied the first insecticide listed "acephate" that has a trade name of "Orthene" and is available over the counter as a water soluble powder.
It's cheap and effective, but as noted it has a notable order. Not overpowering, but not something one would consider pleasant.
Being water soluble, it can be trunk injected and is a systemic insecticide that only impacts insects that are consuming the foliage of the tree following treatment. According to the paper below, soil injection may also be an option.

Including the 36" bar, and the 390xp was $1100.00 out the door with a 24" bar and 3 chains when I got that. Although they were several years ago now. Both well paid for themselves at this point.

I don't cut anywhere near houses. 661 is $1619 plus 7% tax, Huskies are not to be found around here.

Houses were just one of many examples, doesn't matter what it is, other trees, yourself. $2k is cheap compared to any bill you're gonna get if and when things go pear shaped. Doesn't matter what brand the saw is, get one big enough to do the job.
