So, someone giving you money for doing something automatically imparts knowledge to you that the general population has no access to? Do you really think that?

no. because some of these guys on this site will go out and cut a tree for a ham sandwich and a couple beers. thats payment, doesnt mean they are professional.

I'd like to believe you were just trying to make a point because these statements, if taken verbatim, are simply ridiculous. To infer that all homeowners are as intellectually deficit as the guy in the video is as irresponsible as the guy wielding the saw. I don't doubt you ability as a Sawyer for one bit and can understand the frustrations as a professional viewing this and most likely other things you've witnessed in the past. Unfortunately, lashing out in this manner is not really getting your point across the way I believe you wish. I shoot at a Police range and can out shoot 95% of them. I have been turning wrenches for 40 years and I'm probably better than a good percentage of professional mechanics out there. By your logic, does this mean those aforementioned professionals should not be allowed to work? There are certainly safety issues with them not being able to perform their jobs to a higher standard. Whom sets the standards, you?

listen. you are an intelligent man. all i am saying is that no training and just going out and doing something is a tough thing to watch.

Anyone who grew up in the country and heated with wood learned by doing. I did, along with a lot of reading. There is nothing magical about 'self taught'. That it isn't as safe as being trained by a pofessional goes without saying. I also learned to drive with no training on 34 Chev 1 1/2 ton crash box at 14. Safe? Dubious as the whole rig was a moving violation.

Am I an exception to the rule? I doubt it. I'll bet about 1/2 the people in the woods were self taught or learned by watching, not getting specific instructions.

yes indeed i would leave the circular saw to a carpenter. in a heartbeat.

in order for me to give respect it needs to be earned. and you my friend are sadly sadly sadly mistaken if you think someone in a warehouse can out cut me. maybe in the wildest of dreams you might have you could possibly hold my file, but thats it.

like i said. stay safe.

Who is in a warehouse? My job, is that what you were trying to imply? It's called a 45 million dollar corporation that I run. I have many warehouses. I surely do not need respect from you as I have all the respect I need. For all I know you might be the lowest guy at your work with a chip on his shoulder. Sure you can out cut me, I would only hope so. There is your claim to fame. Now quit embarassing your fellow professionals, your stinking up the place.

by your age alone sir, you have my respect. and from all these pics you post it is clear to me that you are still in the midst of gaining even more knowledge than that of which you have earned.

i am painting in a broad brush, i understand that. but i am also just motivated by fear as well. thats why i overcheck every thing i do when i comes to anything tree related.

i fear, that not enough of anyone else does the same.

ooooooooooohhhhhhh boy. mr money bags himself. lol

nope not the low man at all pal. lol

tell you what. why dont you hit the road. mr warehouse owner. mr multi billion dollar man.

you obviously are above what goes on here. you pay for your work to get done.

Let's not tar homeowners with the idiot in the video brush. Actually he is a good argument for ''If you want the job done right, do it yourself.''

I have taken down some good sized trees and they all landed where I wanted them. I certainly wouldn't have wanted him doing the one ash a few years ago. It was big, about 3' at the base. Most of the trunk was rotted away and what was left of the crown was all on the side toward the house. It landed between the house and a maple I wanted to save with little room on either side.

Many people are capable of doing a wide range of projects safely and competently. They also know when to pay somebody with more training, experience, and the right equipment. Wonder through Lowes or Home Depot. You won't see many people with their names on their shirt. Nobody seems to have missing limbs or other evidence of past botched jobs. They are mostly homeowners buying the material for a wide range of projects, and have been doing different jobs for a long time. There some ways to give yourself an edge. Read the directions. Read the owners' manual. Read a book. Find somebody you can trust for advice. Likely not Utube or Experts Village.

Yes, a lot of fools do get hurt doing things they shouldn't. Some people shouldn't even own a house. They need to live in an apartment with a good super to take care of everything. Maybe near a bus line to keep them from driving.

Lots of other ways for idiots to improve the gene pool. How about the post about the leading cause of falls is deer hunters and their tree stands? I noticed Fox News last night reporting 3 people died in a snowmobile accident. Isn't automobile accidents the leading cause of death for young men? So set in the recliner, drink beer, watch TV, and die of a heart attack?

Hey guys - No one can possibly know anothers skill level based by a few words or pictures online? [excluding mr. barberchair] Just being a licensed insured tree worker does not make the man worthy, the quality of the work does. In my 35 years with the power co, when I called in for a tree crew, it was because the saw I had wasn't big enough or the bucket I had wouldn't reach. I got some good guys, and I got some real sorry asses. Just because it said Lewis or Davey on the side of the truck didn't make the man with the saw any better. The really great ones, they make the work look effortless, they didn't have to talk about it either, they just did it. The bad, well, a few times I wish my mom had come out, she would have been better help. In the 'real world', if a man wants to work for lunch - so what? A few weeks ago a man came and put 30 ft of new fields on my septic system, for free - Why, because a few years ago I took a real snotty tree off the roof of his daughters house, for free. Friends should help friends, we'd all be better off.
