Another diff is the recoil cover: on the OE, the sticker shape looks like the older saws (55, 262XP etc). On the NE, the sticker shape is more like the newer saws (575XP, 570 etc.)

Well, my friend that said he'd sell me his nearly new 346 thinks he wants to keep it now. That aside, he did send me some photos. It says "E tech" on the side and has a green gas cap. What does this mean?

Also, if anyone is willing to take a pic of a 346 and 261 side by side (looking down on them), I would seriously appreciate it.

Thanks for the info, guys!

It means that the saw was sold with a cat muffler.

Thanks. As I recall from reading some where here on AS, that's a device that supposedly cuts emissions. Is that correct?

For optimal performance, is it easy to remove or must it be replaced ($) with another muffler?

The E-tech is easy to avoid if one wants a new 346xp.

I haven't seen a new 346xp E-tech in a couple years. My dealer goes through a bunch of them and they have all been Non-Cat, Non-E-Tech models for close to 2 years. Maybe they are a thing of the past.?

Thanks. I was asking in case my friend changed his mind again and decided to sell me his "E tech".
