Just purchased the new 4 mix (well, now old news) HT 101 I believe.

I have used it a few times and find it does have increased torque but, the cuts are no where as clean as with the HT 75. Seems this is due to the lower rpms. I realize after a few tanks of gas it will run a bit faster, but for now it really sucks.

Has anyone else had or getting similar results?

I was under the impression the 4-strokers turned the same RPM but just had more torque on the way up.

HT 101 Mods

I bought the HT 101 today and first thing I did was take it apart. The throttle cable was too slack so I tightened it up with the cam adj. screw that it rides on. This allows the saw to run full throttle. I also drilled a few 1/32" holes in the muffler and turned the idle up to where the chain just wants to turn. It has more power than the HT 75 for sure now.

Anyone ever run a 14" bar on a 101?

The reason for the question is because I went to our Big R store to pick up a 12" chain, instead of driving 15 mi. to our regular Sthil dealer. As luck would have it they were out of 12" chain but had 14" in stock. The store had pre made boxed chain from Sthil and the 101 was listed for 14". They also happened to have a bar too, so I thought I would at least try it and see if the 101 could handle it.

If it was a little too much bar and chain for the tool, I was going to play with the muffler ( thanks Gypo ) to see if I could get some extra power. I can always switch it back to 12" if it doesn't work out, so good
