Its a long shot for sure, but losing the throttle retrn sring or having the throttle plate drop out could give you some funny throttle conditions. Had a log roll down off a pile that could have knocked the whole rear handle off, fortunately it glanced the saw away instead of getting a bite on it.

Not all saws have a safety trigger (what's the technical term for that thing anyway?), and that safety doesn't always work. I have had the throttle gunned by twigs and whatnot when working and moving around in brushy or thickly vegetated areas. I am especially careful to always engage the chain brake when moving around in such areas.
 
Could be like trying to gain control of a loose fire hose, or maybe more appropriately, a live wire, huh Frank?
