First I donot think you want a real racesaw , A woodsported 394 is more inline for what you need, the carb that is on that saw will work fine and the muffler on it is all you need , now the carb and muffler will need to be modified.

yes you need to cut the bottom of the jug to raise your compression and cut your piston , if done proper this doesnot hurt anything and it will last .

Removing material from the bottom of the jug will change the port timing, increasing the intake and decreasing the transfer and exhaust ports.

Modded saws are a real hoot provided that a good sharp chain is used and the saw is tuned properly.
