i would like to see a pic of the "stripped threads". these saws had a stud threaded into the actually cylinder with nuts on the ends. it's nearly impossible to damage the actually cylinder threads as the nuts will strip way before those threads even get stressed. unless somebody cross threaded a stud in that saw.

The $170 was for a whole kit with different sizes from Princess Auto. I can buy just the M5-.08 kit for $51 at Lordco Auto.

The PO, or someone has buggered with the muffler stud hole already. They drilled it out and screwed in the later 266 version of stud......the one with the larger threads at the cylinder end. Anyway, the hole is too big and the stud just wallows around in it. It does catch and barely hold in by 1/2 of a thread. So in essence, it's buggered and needs fixing.
Thin-sert, heli coil, I'm sure there are others out there. My concern is, that the thickness of the metal around the stud hole is only about 0.100" so that doesn't leave much metal for drilling a bigger hole yet.
