I have a Husqvarna 359 for cutting hardwood, but I recently bought an old 44 for a cut-out/ making trails ect.

I spend $100 dollars on it and had to pay 90$ to get it running again. Now I have to pay around 20$ another carb (jetts) + labour.

I've used this little saw for a month for smaller things around the woods, but I'm doubting its worth $250-60 dollars... :confused2:

it'd be worth spending another 50$ vs losing 190$ jmo

It feels like I'm losing with it though eh.

It could be worst though. My friend bought a Sthil MS250 for $250 ( Irony) and it needs a new bar and probably an over-haul ( carb-kit, fuel line, (maybe) fuel filter)

I just don't wanna put too much money into some old little saw. They're strong, but I dislike taking chances.

PS. I'm wondering If 50:1 mixture is fine in her.

50:1 is fine, And i know what ya mean I just put WAY too much money in to a old 55 rancher but now it works like a top and great learning experience. Ya can't put a price on knowledge ya know:rock: Now get that thing going and cut some wood:chainsawguy::chainsawguy::chainsawguy::chainsawguy:

Right on. I've only cut medium softwood/ small hardwood with her. I hate watching small saws cut things its not made for. Thanks for the information :)

She's going to the woods after its fixed :chainsaw:

This site is for helping members like you so you can save on labor costs. You could have asked here how to repair the saw yourself, and you still can.

You have a great 2 saw team there with the 359 and 44. I hae both and they are some of the best out there. I would not hesitate to fix the 44 if it was mine. My Dad owned one as our main stay firewood saw as I was growing up and still runs today. Has cut far more wood than any saw should and I bought one for myself when I started cutting firewood. Only problem is finding parts, and this is a big consideration before sinking more money into one. Most new parts are no longer available. There are lots of parts on e-bay so, for me it would be worth it. One of the old classics that I consider "bullet proof" and quite powerful for their size.

44's are as Arod said almost bulletproof and cut way above 42mm. I have 8-9 of em 7 white tops and 2 grey tops. The only ym to stay away from is 1980 has a blue coil only used one year and I have never seen one for sale. If you ever need parts for your 44 contact me I may have it.

It has a new used carb in her, and is working better.

Only problem is. Once Its warmed up after a few trees, its idle goes up and down till it stalls. It seems to idle fine forever if you don't work her a little. It can idle for maybe 30 seconds till it acts up after a light workout.

Suggestions?

PS. It the old one with the blue coil.

Husky 44's are one heck of a saw I have had mine since 1987 and its still going strong. Wouldnt trade it for anything. I have cut so many ricks of wood with it I lost track. Did I say I really like my husky 44?

Why should you stay away from the blue coil?

He stated why right in his post. I have a 44 with a muff mod and LOVE it. The thing really rips for what it is. I usually have that and my 2171 and try to use the 44 whenever possible.

Do a press/vac test sounds like seals leaking. Been sourcing 44 parts for 8 yrs and have never come across a used or NOS blue coil. Have found and bought all the other coils for 44's. I haven't tried it but might be abe to swap flywheel and coil for a later model if the blue one dies.
What is the SN on your saw?

After its nice and warmed up. I noticed that if i kick it over on its side, right when its wanting to stall. it idles normal without a problem.

Might be a pin hole in your fuel line, or a crank seal air leak? Idle shouldn't be changing under any circumstances.

Your idle should not go up and down.Could be an air leak.A bad coil would just die I would think.I just sold a nice white top 44 with a NOS blue coil I got on ebay and have been running another white top blue coil for 27 years. You can still get the crank seals. The 44's cut very good for 42mm's as seen in video. That one has a NOS black coil in it.

Just took another look at her after getting upset, and throwing her in the dark corner for a while.

Wouldn't idle worth Sh!t. Gave her an extra half turn on the carb. It probably has to do with it being a new carb and not adjusted again since being installed.

Seems to idle for awhile now. Screw it. Probably just going to open the idle hardcore, so it can't stall if it wanted too. :hmm3grin2orange: Chain spinning and all.
