I put the 272 top end on my gray top 61... yes, the decomp button interferes with the chain brake.. I cut most of the button off, and if I need to use it, I can still get in there and push it down..

For the carb, I was able to oval out the holes in the intake block to make it work.. the carb does sit a little lower down, so I had to hog out the H and L screw adjuster so a screwdriver could go in at a bit of an angle, uses the stock carb and filter, gray top cover is unmodified

This is the "Manhattan project" aka "Husky 277" with a 32" bar in a big fir stump.... still haven't blown it up yet.. I've been trying!

I gottta build a pipped saw.....love it

Good call on the Tilly carb. I'm sure this thread will be refered to many time for thoses wishing to do the conversion.
Many different carb models (including some Walbro) were used on this saw "family" - and venturi size surely helps performance. 17.5 mm vs 15.9 is a major difference.

Then there is the question on what goes together - and what not....

I think that saw I built has a 19mm carb on it... I think I could get a little more out of it with the pipe if I raised the exhaust port more, but it would suffer when I decide to not have the pipe.

it's a 36mm crank in it from an L65 (it took a lot of machining), and a 272 (52mm) P&C, which works out to 77cc.. I overbored the carb myself.. it's a smidge over 3/4" actually, it's getting pretty darned thin at that point.

Here is my 61.

For those talking about orange top vs black top, my serial number states it is an 09. i am in canada however, they may have sold longer up here.

The only modifications mine has is a punched in muffler and a cracked case from an unfortunate encounter with a tree. I limped it through the summer, but now that winter is here it's time to get her all fixed up. Likely mod-free.
