Life is all about big saws
So I was thinking, which is sometimes dangerous, why not use a hydrostatic pump like the ones used for zero turn mower such as the whites and hydrogears. Not that bad price on surplus center.
Pros
•no valve needed the pump itself is reversed
• pump only pumps volume that is called for saving energy and fuel
•gpm can be sized high for speed and as ram starts gaining pressure and lugging engine the operator backs off control pumping less gpm but gaining pressure.
• belt drive. Engine mount not needed.
Cons
• no auto cycle valves, don't know if some sort of mechanism could me made to control the pump at the end of strokes.
•some what complicated plumbing

•only one cylinder per circuit. Although a very small open center system could be used for aux functions and really isn't a bad idea.

•the pumps have continuous, intermitant, and peak rating.

But is intermitant 50% of the time?20%???? Is hitting peak or a pop off of 3000 psi going a few times a day going to hurt things?

This pump while much more expensive would handle the pressures fine. Just thinking to with a pump like this, and a splitter like the tempest ef4 you could use two opposed single acting cylinders giving you not only equal power in both directions but a simple closed loop system as well.
What are your thoughts.
