So will it handle a 20" without pooping out?
And if I upgrade my 250 to a 260 will I wish I had a bigger 'big' saw?

Absolutely... and yes... but if you have a 361 you won't find yourself using the 260 much...

The 361 works great on a 20 and 24, and if you occassionally need a 28, just run skip. I find skip on a 24 is real nice also.

Thanks a lot everyone...this has given me some more to think about...between catching the Patriots / Jaguars game thats on right now, at least I can listen to the calls while I type away upstairs:popcorn:

With what you all have said, I had not really thought about the 361 but it makes plenty of sense. Sell my 290, use the cash to offset the cost of the 361, I get more power, less weight and can still run a longer bar, which is what I need and keep the 18' in the spares kit.
The 372 felt lighter than the 441, more manouverable, but I think the 361 will satisfy my needs right now. I'm not felling total monster trees, but certainly need a bigger saw.
Also I've got a friend who has a 440 I can borrow if I really need a big saw on a one off.

Here's a pic of a Norfolk Pine stem I felled after dismantling the top, it was about 70', did this with the 290.
Also a pic of a turkey oak in the Uk, can't remember what size the saw was.

Thanks very much, a pleasure doing business:cheers:

I just bought a 361 and love it. The clutch springs on my old (1991) 026 popped while I was on a job and I could not get the replacement parts for several days, so I had an excuse to buy a new saw! The 361 I was told has the best power to weight ratio of any of the Stihl saws. I got the 20" bar and the super chain. It's not even broken in yet and still cuts like a hot knife through butter with lots of power. I've cut oak, cedar, pine and hickory with no problems. Check it out, you will not be sorry. To hell with the local dealers and their jacked up prices, shop on line and have it delivered to your door! Happy cutting!
