Recently bought a job lot of Stihl parts included allsorts of bits and pieces, not just for saws.

This piston and cylinder came out with no box or other means of identification.

It has Stihl stamped on the side and the piston measures about 44 mm dia.

Any ideas?

Dan

Forget these pics, look at the ones posted lower instead

Sorry I forget some people are on dial up. I'll try to get some smaller pics on just as soon as the camera batteries are charged.

I know it isn't from a stihl chainsaw. I'd guess it to be a TS460 concrete saw. I'm sure Andy aka Lakeside will be able to give you a definite answere.

On the same side as the stihl stamp is the no. 4116 on the cylinder.

I don't think it's off a concrete saw as the piston is only about 44 mm and I know TS 400's are 49 mm. I'll try to get some better pics once my camera is back up charged.

Thanks,

Dan

Hope these are easier to view

I did a search on 4116 and it appears that it must be bigger clearing saw like Jacob says. Does Jacob or Andy know if there is any difference between the 026 piston vs the fs360? I assume the wristpin location must be the same.

The shaping of the fins makes sense with what Jacob says about a clearing saw.

Thanks for all the info guys, I would be interested to know if the piston could be used in an 026 as I have no interest in clearing saws.

Stihl lists the pistons as different... The only way to tell is measure everything about them... Looks longer in the skirts from the photos.

The crown height was a hair taller and the skirts were a hair longer. I had a machine shop shape the crown and skirts. It had enough torque to just about twist itself out of your hands.

If its a 4116 series its either a jug and piston off a FS360 or a FS420, both big weed wackers as I call them or clearing saws.
