If Dolmar is so good, then why so few dealers?

dolmar in canada

I want to be the first Canuck to make a post on this one! I tried really hard to find a dolmar dealer in Western Canada but could not find any that I thought were worthy of me spending my hard earned money on! My father being German spoke highly of S.D, now known as just Dolmar. But have zero dealers here that I would think would be around for more than a few years! I hope they get there ass in gear and get straitened out.

Let us Canucks know if you have any luck tracking down a decent place to buy a dolmar. I noticed makita canada only list the 61 cc saw as its biggest. I was hoping for the 5100 and a 7900 to replace my smaller aging husky fleet [266, 355 etc].

Any of the fellows from the EVERGREEN STATE have experience with buying locally? As half my family lives in Whidbey island, next trip down I might just catch the ferry to port angeles / Sequim to purchase.

I do, + a bit more - I was talking about more extensive work - and he has access to parts from the Dolmar importer.

A bit of waiting for parts for one saw is not a problem for us, as we have several, that overlap regarding the tasks they are fit for.......:)

Ok that makes sense. Your situation is unique in that you do have other models in the same class. If you would have purchased a 7900 instead of the 372, parts availability would have been more of an issue for you.

That is true, and one of the reasons I didn't......:biggrinbounce2:

...but I didn't need the extra power either. ;)

Tried to rep you but,, You know????? Grrrrrr!!!!!

How is the leg mending BTW???? I know Witchy is taking good care of you!!!

Not eating any Rakafisk Ehhhhh????

LOL,,,,

  I will get rid of the plaster/cast on next Tuesday, but I am a bit worried how the ancle ligaments will act, as there still is a little pain there.

Btw, I cut a little wood in the cottage yard yesterday, and have been splitting it in the very warm weather today.....

Maybe I'm the only one with this experience, but we have dealers in Northern Ohio that stock Dolmar saws. I was a big fan in the Sachs days, but the availability in our area went to pot in the 80s and 90s. Over the last 2-3 years, the number of dealers has grown and getting new saws and service (even on the my old Sachs 112) is much easier. The new Dolmar website talks about the IND group. Their website says they can share inventory in the US and Canada.

It is working for me in Cleveland, I hope that the Dolmar brand grows. I am sick of the Husqvarna and Stihl products...:rockn:

Why is Stihl (the #1 brand) not sold at Lowe's and Depot?

They have enough dealers (probably too many according to the boys in my area) to service and sell their product.

I run Dolmars at the top end (5100s and 7900), but prefer the Stihl top handle. I am not knocking Stihl or Husqy (hell I run both), I just prefer the feel of a Dolmar. There is something about running the saw people ask about...

So you and the boys run all Dolmars? Not that there is anything wrong with it...

Dolmars are perfectly OK with me - I like Witchys saw very much (see my sig), and the 115i once was a power to weight champ.......:biggrinbounce2:

Availiability of service and parts may be an issue though, if you don't have other brand saws as well, but for us it doesn't matter much, as we have good "overlapping" for different use, in the "stable".

Scott and Steve at "The Cutting Edge" also was very kind, and included some extra spares (+), with the demo saw I bought for Witchy......:biggrinbounce2: ;)

Oh, I know. I "might" have a 5100 someday. Money just can't catch up with my wants:(

Not with mine either, but it catches up with my real needs, and then some (didn't need the 372xpg, just wanted it, just because - and Witchy didn't need the 5100 either, just wanted it - and the 339xp - just for fun initially, but now we both just love it - might get into a fight over it, sometime...).........:rockn: :rockn:

Btw, she "grew up" with the ol' Jreds 621........

If you had really listened to the saws (hearing protection not allowed), you most likely would have preferred the Huskys..........:buttkick:

There is a Husky-Dolmar dealer just down the road from me...pretty cool saw shop with some vintage motocross bikes on display.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought this the best place to put my post.

If you think Dolmar marketing is poor in the US, I think its even worse here in the UK. Not only do they market there saws under the Makita brand they seem to give them different numbers.

I was searching for a 5100 and could not find any, and was beginning to think they were not available in the UK. ( a bit like SawTroll’s situation) Then I came across this.

Is it just me or is the DCS5000/DCS5001 a 5100? :crazy1:

This is a serious question that I really don't understand at all. I have done my homework and have read a brazillion posts regarding the Dolmar 5100 saw and it seems to be very highly regarded by just about everyone.

The 5100 seems to be positioned somewhere between the Husky 346xp and the Stihl ms361 for less (sometimes, quite a bit less) than both.

At almost 4hp (3.8), and weighing around 11 lbs, many have said that it actually will cut just as fast as the 346xp (due to its similar 14.5 rpm's) and even perform better and stronger burying the bar in larger rounds or trees (due to more hp).

So, this is what I don't get. If this saw is such a fantastic performer, and is so cheap (around $380.00-ish retail), I would think that any dealer that had them simply could never keep them in stock as they would all sell out instantly.

So, the question once again. If the saw is so good, and so cheap, why are there so few dealers?. I would think that any power equip dealer would jump to pick up this line.....[confused!!]. Am I missing something here??

FYI, ther is no *real* Dolmar dealer in our state. I wonder if anyone sells them over the internet?

Just as fast as a 346 in 2" pine In 12" the Dolmar will smoke it. Steve
