I only cut about 4 cords. I way over cut last year and some of it was very green. Sitting in the yard all last summer and so far this year, the cracks are so deep and numerous I can probably split it by hand (pull it apart). I may not have to cut next spring/summer either is we have another mild winter.

Nice! I've got other things I'd rather do. :)

Or maybe if I get bored I'll help a neighbor.

i have been trying to get my wood cut this spring, but something always comes up. I have hauled home one load so far. I need at least 3 more loads to have enough. Actually I have enough for next year, I'm cutting for the following season. you are looking good if you are already finished this early in the game.

If you can get rounds stacked off the ground in full sun even 16"er's will season in two full summers. Once you get ahead it makes things easy.

I'm set for 2015-16, and half-way on 16-17. It was too wet this Spring to take equipment into the forest. It's getting hot now and this old dog has finally learned a new trick -- work slower and smarter.

My first year here, I was under prepared. Had to do some cutting during the winter. I was lucky it was a mild winter, and that my neighbors let me cut some downfall. Lessoned learned. More is better, much more is much better. :)

October is for deer hunting and fishin'
Deer huntin' is a 10 minute affair for me... when I run short of venison I step out on the front porch in my slippers and pop the one I want.
Fishin' is pretty easy also, I live on the river... I can darn near (but not quite) toss a line in the water from the front porch and have Walleye, Small Mouth or Channel Cat for dinner (depending on the bait I use).
And, I don't haf'ta walk far from the front porch to start cuttin' firewood... meaning I'm never more than a few seconds from the beer cooler no matter what I'm doin' :D
And best of all  I can be doin' all four things at the same time if'n I choose... deer huntin', fishin', cuttin' firewood, and drinkin' beer

MMMM catfish!

YUK! Haha. I'll take salmon or halibut please.
Those are not comparable....it's like comparing shrimp to scallops; both are totally delicious but completely different.

Cornmeal breaded cafish, beer battered walleye or northern, cedar planked salmon, broiled halibut all make my A-list.

I grew up in Maine and catfish is something a person wouldn't even feed to the cats... slimy, boney, and they are trash eaters so loaded with mercury from sawmills (commonly used till the 60's at least).

Anyhow, I get to San Antonio, Texas for basic training about 15 years ago and first day in the lunch line, the obese nasty greasy and sweaty lunch ladies are serving catfish. My first thought.... sheez, even prisoners get fed better! I went hungry a few times.

BTW after a few weeks them lunch ladies started looking pretty attractive...

Later found out in the south catfish is apparently somewhat edible.

Catfish up here is actually a semi-delicacy as there are only a few rivers that hold them (and they are very clean, relatively speaking). I never turn down the chance to eat catfish from a reputable source.

I used to fish Lake Superior quite often before life with 5 kids caught up with me. Fresh salmon and lake trout from the lake to the grill in under an hour. Also smoked salmon/trout is tops as is home canned trout.

As long as we are full derail mode here: One of my favorites is walleye, northern, or trout poached in 7-up/Sprite, sprinkled with lemon pepper, and dipped in drawn butter. Everyone I have prepared this for said it was one of the best tasting fish they have ever had.

MMMM catfish!
Yeah... our Cedar River produces excellent catfish angling. I typically fish them with crank baits mimicing crayfish this time of year, it's not uncommon to land a half-dozen pan-sized in an hour or so.
The Small Mouth Bass can be a little finicky... small spinner baits and jigs will sometimes fool 'em, but often nothin' but a real live minnow gets em' hot 'n' bothered.
The river Walleye like the same crayfish crank baits, frogs, larger minnows, and even slow-fished spoons.

Cookin' great tasting catfish ain't no big trick. First ya' put 'em (live) in a tank of cold well water for a couple days... that cleans 'em out. Filet off the meat behind the ribs, and trim off any that ain't bright white. Soak 'em in the fridge overnight in milk or salt water (it's a preference thing), roll 'em in your favorite "crumbs" (cornmeal is a good one), and toss 'em in a hot deep fat fryer... yank 'em the instant they float.
Ummm, ummm, ummm... betcha can't eat just one‼
Better than any halibut I've ever had... salmon is not a fish :D I grill it like steak.

...slimy, boney, and they are trash eaters...
Slimy?? Heck no they ain't... they just ain't got scales. Fish with scales have way more "slime" on 'em.
Boney?? All the bones are solidly attached to the spine... I've never found a bone in one of my filets... ever.
Trash eaters?? I don't know where that idea ever got started... they will scavenge during times of cold winter water (like near every fish), but they actually don't eat any more "trash" than any other fish. Because they have a highly evolved sense of smell, strong smelling baits are sometimes used... maybe that's where the idea of "trash eater" comes from.

We have fantastic SMB fishing up here but they are kind of a by product as most locals are fishing for walleye, trout or muskie/northern. I have a couple of lakes where catching 300 smallies in a day is easily achievable. I do a 4-5 day camping trip each year and we routinely catch SMB over 5 pounds off walleye reefs not even trying to catch them. Clear water bass taste just as good as walleye but their heavier rib bones dull filet knives very quickly.

No need to brag about it dude.

My family has a place in the u.p. on a small lake and i took a trip with some friends this spring for a bachelor wknd. We caught loads of northerns and deep fried em. Normally the fish from the lake are junk as its a shallow warm lake, but the little ones we caught in the cold water were excellent, also the bones arent such a bugger in the little ones.
