tommorrow. I'll let you know what transpires. to judge size; the auger is 18" plus another 12" and a 24" extension= 54" total visible in the pic.

I put a lot of force into the tree when standing up the the split. I installed the cables first due to weather and the natur eof the pull I applied. I'm certain the split did not bow under the lift at all. likely, due to the sheer size of the split and strength and attitude of the branches that curled horizantally out, resisting bowing the branch almost completly. Im not sure what the formula is for figuring out lever arms but the closing force at the split would have been many many tonnes. This sucker is not going back together without re breaking something. It has settled into its new split position and I will stop further expansion.

more later thanks again

I wrongly adjusted the entry point on the 2cnd trunk by eye. Its out just under a inch. I will either have to re drill, use 5/8 rod, or thread the 3/4 rod through the last three feet. Opinions?
Darn eyeball not all that trustworthy sometimes eh? not sure what "thread it through" means--cranking it in by hand?--, but looking at your excellent pics, maybe downsizing to 5/8" is not the best idea. Redrilling puts 2 holes very close to each other, not good either.

Great work!
