I go on and on about my edge saddle. It's a nice saddle. Yesterday as I was hanging 70ft up in the air on a crane, waiting for something, I decided to do a safety inspection of my bridge to kill some of the time. I noticed one of the heads on the screw attached to the clevis that holds the bridge is cracked all the way though on the head. A little bigger then a hairline crack. I tryed to take some pictures but the metal is to shiny for my cell phone to get one.
I am still climbing on it, but that little voice is getting louder and louder. I haven't contacted sherrill yet, I want a nice picture to send them so they don't blow me off like weaver did.(I'll never buy another weaver saddle)
Any way if you have an edge saddle check those clavisis extra good.
I not sure how much of a safety hazard this is, but if that bolt fell out while you were suspended, you'ed be way screwed.

any defect is a safety hazard because no one on here is an engineer or saddle designer so your doing the right thing by announcing it. Im going to check mine out tomorrow.

also man i dunno if id be hanging on it with a crack in it like that please stop using it. i don't wanna read about you on this site or anyone else in the fatalities section. if you can't afford another saddle call me ill give you one i don't use anymore.

I just sent an e-mail to Sherrill, My other saddle is a weaver couger:frown: I explained the problem and said I'll buy the replacement part and have it overnight delivery. I have 10 pines to deadwood tomorrow(All SRT). I'll reinforce it with some 8mm line I have.

I'm glad I saw this thread... I have one and so does a buddy who's coming over today. Good timing!

Which clevis do you have? On Sherrill's site they show a different clevis than the one my saddle has. Mine is a threaded clevis with a pan head allen. The one on Sherrill's site looks like it could be a countersunk allen with a nut on the end? Maybe they already changed it?

Regardless thanks a ton for posting this. Important stuff.

And that didn't rattle you huh?I would stay away from that whole design!

Use another saddle man! That's just crazy!

I contacted Sherrill and they quickly got back to me. I explained the situation and my concern that this maybe a serious safety issue. I asked about buying the part and paying for overnight delivery. Not looking for a free ride just want to be safe.
They told me not to climb with it, and to return it to vermeer in Fontana, Calif, where I ordered it, and they would send it to buckenham(sp?) for repair.
This kind of suprised me. I had offered to take it to vermeer in my first E-mail so the defective part could be documented. Not send my belt in for repair. They seem kind of blase' about the whole thing, and I don't want to send my belt in for god knows how long.
I'm going to go to the home depot and see if I can find a replacement part.
I reminded them of the Kong indecent, and no chances should be taking with life support equipment. Oh well I tryed, and maybe I am over reacting.
Still I am fixing it today or tomorrow, I have work Monday.
Any way you all be the judge heres a photo, sorry about the qualityView attachment 221823View attachment 221824.
The crack is all the way through it appears.
