Is the 194 C a good saw for a beginner?

When I am finally allowed to get a chainsaw, I want to get a small one but not one of the crappy 170 through 181 series saws because the carb is not adjustable and I want to get into carving down the road. Is it a good and solid saw?

A top handle saw is not for beginners. The ms180 series just needs an aftermarket adjustable carb. Decent saws for the money if you can't afford something pro level.

ive got a 194T, great saws, like sean said, get a rear handle saw, much more controllable
for the money, I would take a rear handle 194 over an MS170 or 181 any day, good saws if you open up the exhaust (I removed the spark screen, and the little plate that holds it, nearly doubled the power on mine, takes 30 seconds and one T27 torx screw)

Whilst all that is true- was the OP not asking about a 194 C not a 194 T?
Asking if the rear handle 194 might be a good choice for a first up small saw with a possible advancement into carving in the future.

If you can afford it, check out the 201C rear handle. More money but substantially more saw. Would make a great carving saw. Also, mine came with easy start. It makes a great limbing saw as well.
