Is this a fake 660?

That is so far from mostly or partly OEM its not funny! Send that saw back and buy something worth the hard earned money you spent. If you like it buy a $200 kit and build one yourself and buy a used OEM $500 saw for real work. If that saw was $300- you would know its fake.....
 
I'd rather have that 660 even if it is aftermarket than the OEM 660 that was in my shop this week.. Easy to tell which parts are OEM, just look for the serial number. Stihl puts their name on many parts and a part number on most of their parts, I don't believe the Chinese parts have numbers on them..
 
I think there is a dirge of people putting together saws from a few used OEM parts with a majority of the parts being chicom to con new enthusiasts, while covering themselves from fraud charges.

one of my 372's was a similar case from Ebay. it had these OEM parts: flywheel side (with the S/N tag), crank, pistion, carb. it had the following Chicom parts: cylinder, PTO side case, clutch, flywheel, oil pump, coil, fuel tank and other plastics. I chased problems with help from the forum and ended up swapping the flywheel, coil, oiler and waiting for the time to swap the piston & cyclinder with some used OEM parts from my other 372 that i plan on doing a complete refresh with new OEM cylinder & piston.

Basically the seller worded it very similiar to yours at that time everybody advised that I send it back, but I felt that it was worded in such a way that my chances were slim, and it being my own screwup that I should eat it and learn from the experience. Needless to say I have been very careful since that day on used saw buying.

the biggest thing i noticed though is that yours claims to be an actual Stihl product, with some am parts. mine did not, and the way it was worded it was debatable on if I would win the complaint or not. I think you would, and I think you should send it back. just my 2 cents, you paid a hell of a lot more than i did though, I only got reamed for 450 & shipping.
 
This is a bit like when I hear someone has bought a second hand car for a price that makes them think they have ripped the seller off, then they find the odometer has been wound and it's them that has been ripped off. A good deal should be where both partys are happy, and honesty is dealt on both sides.
If you genuinely thought or were told you were buying a genuine saw in that condition for that price and you thought it was fair, then you were ripped off, but if you thought you were getting more than you were paying for then that is something to consider as well. Did the seller intend to rip you off by miss representing the saw?
I would much rather build a saw like that from crushed or broken bits and have a part original saw than buy one done by someone I don't know, but I would never sell a frankensaw to Anyone else.

I have a CL seller around here who sells AM660s and is really trying to sell them off as MS660s. When you start questioning him on them he is open about it but he is not volunteering any information. Straight up caveat emptor. He is not lying exactly but it is up to you to know the difference.

It's okay to sell anything, just let the buyer know what they're getting. I get most of my saws used so I can't tell them what the previous owner did to it unless he tells me..
