Now this IS interesting Walt, a 4 stroke saw...I've just been waitin to see one,,can you tell me where I might get a look at this baby.???
It certainly makes sense that someone would do it someday, and Shindaiwa has some great engineering talent in engine development, as witnessed by their string trimmer advances.
With the current trend towards 2 cycles kinda sour in general, maybe the next king of the wood pile will be the 1st to successfully develop a 4 stroke!
I would really like to know more about this baby!!!

P.S.

Oh ya and all ive heard..as many have, is that the Stihl is a 4 cycle engine that will still use mixed gas for the trimmier market .keepin my eye out for one

Walt...."Efco is now IMAC, and they appear to be buying large distributorships in Europe. (A rumored possible Electrolux tie-in, but no offical word yet. Could be some real intrique going to happen here. You heard it first on this forum!) "

This may or may not tie in with that statement...

Here in Canada, (as you probably well know) Jonsered is Distributed by a company called Josa Corporation, who is fathered by the Mcquat(sp?) group..(cant even remember how to spell the name of the company I used to work for...sheesh) And they happen to be the Dist for Husky in the East as well...and through both lines of their distribution, they have also filtered Efco units(trimmers, pumps, and brush saws)as part of booking programs..this has been happening for many years...now I realize that this doesnt directly tie Efco(Imac) to electrolux...but it does say that they have been together and working well for awhile..and just points another finger at what you are saying...

every place i know that has stihl ,also has husky.
so i guess the part about stihl dealers selling stihl exclusive dont apply to husky. which dont make
sense ,since thats the primary competition and seems that would be the target of that type regulation or whatever they callit.
mabe i just misunderstood the statement. now that would be a first. not:)

Misunderstood

You did Tony..misunderstand that is. Dealers are RETAILERS...distributors, wholesale distributors do not sell products to the end users, they dont collect SALES TAX..
The Federal trade act protects dealers from such monopolizing policies, but wholesalers are not protected from these policies and they are largely at the mercy of the manufacturers.

Then reason you see dealers with Stihl also having Husky is because when Dave Zerfoss, pres of Husqvarna was hired from Stihl, he brought along records of every Stihl dealers sales, and every Husqvarna salesman was issued a report on all the Stihl dealers in his territory. Armed with these sales reports, all the salesmen were given a mandate to "do whatever it takes" to get the Stihl dealers signed up!
Made Alot of Husqvarna dealers mad, particularly those in the same towns as the Stihl dealers when the Husky sign showed up on their competetors pole!

Very interesting thread.

Another thing about the mccullochs I once saw one on Ebay. It looked just like a Partner! But it said PRO MAC on it, did Partner make saws for them or was it something else? Maybe it was a pro mac 700?

okay dagger thanks for takin the time. later now
shhsh, boy am i out o my league. somebody hand me a t-ball bat:)

I was told by the local Deere dealer up here that they submitted the new Deere professional series saws (the ones you guys are talking about) to the Ministry of Natural Resources for testing and evaluation as they had been the supplier of Huskys to them for years. The report back on the new saws as I was told was that performance wise they were on par with the Huskys and slightly better on fuel! Now I just seriously concidered the Husky 357xp which I hear from you guys is tops in its class and is priced at around about $750 CDN but its hard not to consider the new Deere CS56 18" which was quoted at around $539CDN!

Diesel Dog,

I got to run that big JD and ill tell you what, its not a bad saw and its power is i would say compareable to a 044 as apossed to my 046. But it is a good saw, bit on the heavy side though. Anyways the JD's are i would say on par with some of the pro husky saws (husky jab) they just dont have the conviences of the stihl and some husky's. Inboard clutch, side tensioner(next year or sooner i suspect) etc... The one thing i really dont like is that the chain brake has jus the one rotational point by the clutch (to easy to break) but overall good saw / dollar value though. But i told my local dealer i will stick with my Stihl.

I'm glad JD is finally getting some good feedback on their saws. I just helped a guy select a new saw to replace an old Homelite, and we decided on the JD CS-56. So far he loves it. Diesel Dog, I would watch which model you buy as far as fuel effeciency. I posted a message about a German website that has fuel consumption data on several saws (take a look), and the EFCO/Olympyk/Oleo-Mac 956 (same as JD) is not a particularly fuel efficient model (worse than a Stihl 029). The 962 or CS-62 is among the best , however. The CS-62 would compare much better to the 357XP, but you'll pay a little higher price as well. I'm not sure that the German report represents the most current JD models, and I did find at least one obvious error on a Stihl saws (appears that 039 and 036 were switched), but I though it was a least worth mentioning.

TonyM,
I'm glad to hear from someone who is/has run the JD saws. Sometimes all we have to go on is the published figures (hp, lbs.,...). These numbers can be deceiving as well. I took a look at the JD figures and thet didn't seem to compare so I never gave them a second thought.

Seesaw, it depends on which models you look at. The CS-62 beats anything else in its class for Hp and power/weight ratio. It's as light as a 357XP, has 6 more cc's and .3 more Hp. The CS-56 isn't impressive for power/weight until you realize that it's comparable in price to an 029 and a much better saw with better numbers than an 029. The bigger JD saws don't seem as impressive, and anything under 50cc is not of interest to myself.

TonyM,

I used it again (the big deer) everytime I use it I sure am glad i bought my 046M. That thing is HEAVY, noticeably heavier than the 046. It is however a good saw, not great, not bad, just average. It cuts good and had good power.
