I have a john deer v55 apart about 20-25 years old in excelent shape, it had stoped firing. Checked the coil, it was fine, ended up totaly taking it appart to get the fly wheel off. the point were fine, but I noticed that the last time it was serviced to replace a burnt coil the wire from the points had not been clipped away from the fly wheel and had rubbed through grounding the primary.

Any way befor I put it back together I would like to do some mods to the engine.

Any sugestions? It is closed transfer ports so I wont be able to do too much there?

The 55V will be a pretty good saw as is. They were very durable. A little heavy though by todays standards. Just worked a couple of 55s recently. It was just rubber stuff gone bad. thats normal for their age.

Yes, it seemed to be a not half bad saw considering the age, How old would you say they are. I was thinking 20+ years, I like what they did with the muffler being tucked nicly under the engine.

I think I will drop the head down and raise the ports up, and otherwise polish up what I can.
